Philosophy | Absurdity and Ridiculousness

My overall goal with the game is to make something that's fun. You travel to different parts of the city and get involved in all types of crazy situations. In the process, you meet people. Some of them are pretty girls you can choose to sleep with. There are different directions I can take you from there.
I had two options. One end of the spectrum is completely realistic. The other end is a complete fantasy.
By making a game with multiple love interests, the game is already straying away from realistic. I'm assuming that just doesn't happy very often with poor college students. There are harem possibilities. It was never gonna be realistic.
It gets even less realistic when you meet some girl who's trying to get a modeling contract. And it keeps going when you're fighting in illegal underground cage matches. And the game kept going with the party and the fire at the coffee shop.
Where do we go from here? I can tell you that it's going to skew toward more unrealistic stuff. The cage fights are going to get wilder. The circumstances around Vanessa's contract will get the two of you into wackier situations. And the stakes surrounding Billy's coffee shop will continue to increase.
What's not going to happen?
The story won't get to the extremes in any direction. It won't be a simple matter of fixing the coffee shop then making a living until you graduate. On the other hand, you won't be traveling to another dimension to find intergalactic aliens with your new superpowers (unfortunately). Crazy stuff will happen but nothing will happen outside of the context and foundation of the story that's already there.
Where are you going?
As I mentioned earlier, you're heading toward a more unrealistic story. The stakes will change. Scenes will get wilder and kookier. All of it will continue to snowball, culminating into an ultimate climax (literally and figuratively).
I wanted to say all of this for a few reasons. The first is that I want to give some of you peace of mind if you needed it. I'm aware that when you look at the ending of Episode 6 one way, it seems ridiculous. That was intentional. In my opinion, the story was always ridiculous to a certain extent right from the start because you're getting involved with multiple women. But more things are going to happen that will probably fall into the 'ridiculous' category.
I also wanted to address the tone of the game. As I mentioned earlier, I want this story to be fun more than anything else. I know Vanessa's storyline is polarizing to some people but personally, I'm having fun writing it. I had a good time writing the dance competition scene and there's plenty more of that coming. I'm trying to be as fun and funny as I can with every scene I write. This goes back to how ridiculous all of this is to begin with. There's no wrong way to write a story. It can be absurd. It can be realistic. I think there are plenty of great examples of both. For AMFA, I wanted to write a story that was fun and it ended up skewing toward the ridiculous.
But I won't go all the way to the right on the scale of believability. What's keeping things from going that far? The relationships themselves. I treat the characters like real people as best as I can. I think the circumstances around them are strange but the connections and feelings they have are what keep them grounded. That's the touch of real life that I want and I think it's the most important aspect to counter all of the absurdity and ridiculousness.
If none of this matters to you either way then I think and hope that you'll enjoy what's ahead of you. And for those of you who are a bit distraught about what might have happened, I'll say this. Don't worry. You're gonna be all right and you're gonna have a lot of fun doing it. Remember. You're the MC. It's your world and everybody else is just living in it.
If you have any questions, opinions, or suggestions on the tone of the story with how realistic or absurd it is, leave a comment and let me know. I'm always willing to push things further or scale things back.
On Episode 7
Got a lot of renders done this week and finished a few scenes. I plan on rendering the biggest scene of the episode so far this weekend. I'm rebuilding an old set, so that'll take a decent chunk of time. There are also going to be a few new characters introduced. It'll be fun and it'll be very pertinent to the story, too. I'm hoping to get as much of it done this weekend. We'll see how it goes.
I'm gonna push this weekend and next week for the first official progress update next week. I hope that I'll have enough substantial progress that you'll have something to look at on the graph, even if it's just a few blocks on the progress bar. I think I have enough renders for a preview, too.
Other than that, everything is going okay and I'm working as usual.
If you have anything for me, leave a comment or shoot me a message. Enjoy the weekend, everybody. Thanks again for your support. I'll talk to you later.
