Death Metal Music Theory

This lesson is a casual discussion of how I view death metal, scales I like to use, how to create this style, etc.

Attached are the scales discussed in the lesson tabbed out, and the drums used in the video.

For more scale positions, and scales in general, I really like this site to get alllll kiiiinds of scales: Guitar Scale Generator (guitarmasterclass.net)

Here's a lesson that covers the diminished scale: 5 Half-Whole Diminished Riff Examples for Metal Guitar - Mile High Shred

I tried recording this lesson in a new way, and only after I recorded did I notice a slight reverb/echo in the microphone, and it seems like there's a clean version of the guitar you can slightly hear when I play with distortion on. HOPEFULLY this won't be distracting, and HOPEFULLY I'll have this issue fixed for the next lesson.

Have you been following a tab, or trying to figure it out by ear?

I was working on Chapel of Ghouls but found it hard to understand, even if it is one of their easier songs.

If there's anything more specific you'd like me to cover, please let me know!

I hope you do more like this about death metal that isn't melodic because guitar teachers online rarely do. This is awesome
