Some Patreon 'changes'!^-^

You may know I really like to change stuff up here on Patreon every few months to find a better balance of quality & quantity, work & life, fun & stress... you know^-^

Some time ago I got approached by The Otaku Box, a subscription box service focused on Anime merch and ecchi/hentai items. They wanted to use some of my artwork for some items, I agreed, the money was a nice little extra for me. I didn't promote that bc I wasn't sure if they were legit, lol, meanwhile I've seen other people doing cooperations with them, some unboxings and they seem fine!^-^ Anyway, some time later they asked for commissions. My typical reply is 'sorry, no time', but they were like...

My monthly content has been 4 colored doodle drawings (+1 version each) and 6 regular drawings (most +3 versions each) lately. The money I make through patreon with that content is not enough to make a living, etsy is a lot extra work considering it doesn't really bring a lot money and I rarely do commissions (besides tier 5), because I don't have the time for more and actually like to work 'free'.

The Otaku Box' asked me to do 2 drawings for them (+ a topless version for each) every month, they ask for certain characters or let me pick character from certain shows, and I can work rather free regarding pose, outfit, theme, expression, ect. They pay me about the same I make through Patreon in a good month - for those two drawings alone! I'm not that used to commissions, bc - like I said - I usually decline commissions, so I do them rarely, but that's an amount I feel like I could never ask a normal person for a commission.

So I could double my income by doing just two more drawings! Nice! But here's the thing: I can't do two more.

Secretly I did one extra drawing in April and one in May for them to test if I can manage that and it was reeeeally stressful (I hope to be able to show them to you soon!). My schedule was already tight before, but is now chaotic. I think about my to-do-list all day, I drew quite a few hours more every week, spent more 'freetime' with stuff like social media, packing up etsy stuff etc and took less time off. I already have the tendency to overwork myself, because I just love drawing, I spend a lot of time with details, I have a lot of ideas and I'm always like 'I also want to do this and draw an extra version with that', for example my plan was to usually do 1-2 extra versions for drawings, but now I usually do 3 or more... and I know that behaviour can be unhealthy in the long run.

So I thought about cutting off at least one drawing from the monthly set and maybe do 1-2 versions less for some drawings to balance out the time for the 2 commissions. But why not just get rid of that fixed number for drawings, so I can just draw as much as I can manage in a month and be more flexible? One month could have more drawings with few extra versions, one month could have less drawings with more versions or just a mix of that - just keep in mind, I'll always draw a lot of nice stuff!^-^

And! Best part! The Otaku Box agreed that I can share the commissioned pieces in high res with my patrons! On that condition that they use it for their box first and I share it one month later here. Since the planing and preparations for such a box are time-consuming, that could mean a delay of even a few months. Like I said, I did a piece in April and they haven't used it yet. But you will get these artworks exclusively after some time!

in a nutshell:

• my schedule is fucked up (again, lol)
• gonna do 2 commissions for The Otaku Box every month
• patrons will get the high res files as well, exclusively, but delayed (one or more months, not sure yet)
• instead of 6 regular drawings and 3-6 doodles I'll do just as many as I can manage, to be more flexible in general and to balance out the time for the commissions

So... I guess... actually you won't really get less stuff, just spread in a different way?

And I don't know if this will be a cooperation for the long term or just a few months, but I'm exited to get a bit more into commissions lately, working together with an anime focused company that will get merch with my artwork out there and just do something new!^-^
