Early bird: What is retro? / Far Cry 3 secrets

After a little downtime while our house had an essential air conditioning refit, I'm back with something equally "cool", if a little different for a change. With the release of Far Cry 6 later this week, I thought it was high time I revealed some of my own discoveries in arguably one of the best games ever made; Far Cry 3 from nearly a decade ago. We'll be wall breaching, glitching, & enjoying some bloopers, as we also explore if Far Cry 3 is "retro"...?

2021-10-11 23:28:56 +0000 UTCIn my opinion "retro" starts in the 90s at the moment. Everything made after the year 2000 is not really retro, because it normally runs without any form of emulation and only minor patching on modern machines. But FC3 is still a great game and I enjoyed the video. No need for all videos to be 100% retro, for me occasional content with modern hard- or software is also welcome - it is a bit like using our beloved retro hardware with modern addons. The retro community already is a mix of retro and modern, so I see no evil if the channel reflects that by also having some more modern content. I hope you understand what I mean, I'm not very good at explaining it I fear xD

Perifractic's Retro Recipes
2021-10-11 14:14:24 +0000 UTCHmmm I'm kind of leaning towards not "Retro" yet. It's just old, but not Retro. Even by modern standards it's still a beautiful looking game. A PC meeting it's minimum requirements would also still run Windows 10. Even going by the release date, it's only a year older than GTA 5, which is a game that can't be called Retro by any standard. If you ignore the release date it just doesn't look or feel retro, or need anything particularly retro to run it on. I think it'll be while before anything from the PS3 era of gaming really becomes Retro to be honest. BUT it was a fantastic game, and my favourite of the Far Cry games I've played so far having played a few and put them down, this one had me hooked beginning to end. The stand alone expansion Far Cry 3: Blood Dragon was great as well, especially if you have a soft spot for the cheesy 80's VHS styled aesthetic. Also although as much as I've just sat here, saying it's not Retro, I enjoyed the video, and hope you make more like it. Although I love the nostalgia from the old games they are usually fairly simple and limited in a way, so it was weird but in a good way watching you play something with "more" to it, and hope to see more content like it.
