Dear Supporters

I've said in the past that our little channel is a true team effort. I also think it is important to take just a small moment to celebrate successes when they occasionally come along.

Well, our chess video from a short month ago just hit 300,000 views ๐Ÿป This is by far a record for our channel, and I'm in awe that is it is also somehow more views than the top videos of some of my colleagues who have been running successful retro channels for twice as long ๐Ÿคฏ

The fun thing about all this is that I had a strong hunch that this video might go viral, which is good because it means that we can recreate this when desired. On the flip side it was also a huge amount of work to make not to mention fielding all of the comments that are still coming in. I've tried to read all 1,500 of them, and engage with constructive ones.

So, I won't be making videos like this every week, but it is great to know that the YouTube algorithm actually works as anticipated. Who knew!

Anyway I just wanted to share this moment with you guys, because without you the moment would not have existed.

Thank you.

Yes, YouTube tell me people clicked more often (thumbnail and title) and then stayed watching (content). This tells me people like the "Can an X beat a Y?" where X is the underdog. And a pretty lady in the thumbnail of course ๐Ÿ˜‰ Expect more vids like this dotted around my content. Atari ST vs Amiga... at Battle Chess anyone?

So well deserved, but the algorithm, right?

Andy Bodger

Aww crap, only just now realized that you can't do that with most games, as the battle results are randomized. Was a nice thought...

This is really good news! If had an Amiga and unlimited free time, I'd do the same thing with the Amiga and a PC and some old turn-based strategy game like Warlords, that would be really interesting (but reeeeaally time-consuming as well, I suppose). Anyhow, keep up the good work!
