Dear Pat-yourselfontheback-reons,
Some progress here fixing that extremely challenging shattered case. I always want to do all I can to not trash an original Commodore 64 housing, so I simply had to try to save it. These machines are special. Even their breadbins! The plan here is to wrap up this "Part 2" if/when the structure of the case is back to its original shape, and hold off on the finishing touches. Let's see if I can!
Part 3 heads up for next week: Case finishing touches (vinyl wrap and/or a surprise), and do 3 things to that abandoned old display to CMM Station-ify it!
Part 4 heads up: A dedicated "Refurbish This!" episode for the non-working PCB, including not just fixing it 🤞but recapping, putting it in a dishwasher (yup!), silver spraying the metals, new heat sinks, fuse, & putting it in the case to finish off the CMM Station™️.)
Final part heads up: A standalone music video of a brand new song created on the fruits of all the above parts' labours!
(Interspersed with these may be other fun RR videos as I have several saucecodepans on the boil!)
But for now, in Part 2, let's see if I managed to keep another moldy breadbin from the landfill in "The Case Of The Shattered Case"...
Your friend in retro,
Chris aka Perifractic
