2024-03-07 20:40:39 +0000 UTCI think McCarthy makes sense as an end of the first type QB. A lot of it has to do with projection and age. Unfortunately, the rumors of him being the same caliber film-wise as the top-3 guys creates very loftfy expectations for a QB who wasn't really in a position to fill them. Hard to be extremely polished when your offense doesn't let you get live reps as much as someone in a pass-first offense can. Had some other advantages, mostly spotlight on him as a prospect, but have to imagine his growth was stunted to some extent, even if it resulted in a lot of wins for the program. It can come across as hating, and I hope no one confuses being critical of a guy being hyped up by the national media as disliking him as a prospect overall. Really, it's unfair to him. Reminds me of Levis getting propped up with Young/Stroud/Richardson. Solid prospect, not the same tier as those three guys. Looking forward to the next breakdown as someone who largely likes JJ, even if he's a firm QB4 to me right now.
