Justin Fields Week 16 Full-Game Analysis

Comments

This was a fine game by Fields, better than most could do for sure. Haters always gonna hate. I'm optimistic he is on the right track long term

dwc

Bears fans everywhere appreciate the consistent breakdowns!

Payton Holmes

we need that full game penix film JT

eli

What’s the ETA on ATL film?

Mark Bala

Not a Bears fan, but I feel out of this video I got what JT said—the full JF experience, good and bad. Sometimes ai think he would be great with a better OC and OL coach, other times it just seems as if he cannot read the defense and know where to go with the ball

Terry

JT will you do a Maye Williams comparison?

Cort Shane

If a 99 rating is his best game then that solidifies he’s not good enough. That has to be the average. He’s 22 in QBR and 23 in rating that’s not SB quality

Cort Shane

NYE edition for JF1 Bears v Falcons?

Curtis Grant

Watching this after I just witnessed the best game of JFs career

Cody Britt

Where is the Joe Flacco videos????

Keelan Dameron

Coaches have failed to develop Fields, period. He’s an insanely talented athlete. The Bears owe it to the franchise to put him in a real position to win. Hire an OC with real tangible successful experience, Draft some weapons and bolster the trenches and let’s go. We have a decent squad, don’t squander big leads and we’re at 9-10 wins with 2 to play. We are right there and coaching is so far off, players making mistakes on every play. Imagine with some discipline and a better roster with all the draft capital and cap space we have, how can we not compete every year?

Mark Watts

Moore has an ankle injury and aggravated it early in this game. Not the best injury for a quick burst WR. He’s a gamer and even with a hitch in his gitty up he’s better than any of our other WR

Mark Watts

@1:15:06 JTO says the top route #13 Tyler Scott is open. But watch JF's helmet. He is looking centerfield all the way. Which is not open at all. Now when he does look that way he could still hit #13 Tyler Scott but (and I might be wrong) JF also sees there is NO ONE on that side of the field. And has a free 10 yards or more. Maybe I'm giving JF too much credit idk.

Edward Sell

@1:12:32 I feel those are only open if thrown with good anticipation. Everyone but Getsy knows JF has 0.001% anticipation in his arsenal. If you know your QB has no anticipation maybe don't run anticipation routes idk.

Edward Sell

I remember Nagy once saying they don't worry about footwork. And whatever the guy does he just does. Seemed so odd to me considering how much JTO emphasizes it. I wonder if Getsy having JF switch lead feet was all he coached JF to do. Or that they stopped coaching it when JF said they were over-coaching him and he was overthinking everything. So they just backed off it and are riding it out.

Edward Sell

#80 Collin Johnson Practice squad WR

Edward Sell

@100:32 that nearly gets picked. Justin sank to throw before the DJ even made his break. The break was rounded off and the DB undercut it quickly. But I just wanted to point out the massive anticipation JF put on that throw. Only for that result. On what wouldn't even be a 1st if caught.

Edward Sell

Can we get a Jackson Arnold breakdown in his first college start last night?

Audie Atkins

It’s been great. I wish Justin all the luck on whatever new team he ends up on and I wish Getsy luck in whatever high school team he’s coaching next year.

Joseph Heidenreich

This comment is absolutely 100% on the money. It’s sickening how much this franchise have let him down. It’s also hilarious, yet at the same time infuriating, how a lot of this fanbase talk about him as if he’s let us down and it’s not the other way around. They say things like “Great QBs hit that throw” and “Great QBs don’t do that”, as though the Bears have had great QBs for years and that’s what they’re used to. It’s ridiculous. He’s a good QB in a bad system.

Ste Parkinson

Absolutely nothing.

Ste Parkinson

Getsy has really tried to turn him into Rodgers. What a joke this franchise is for QBs.

Ste Parkinson

I think the consensus was Getsy wanted to make him a pocket QB in his system and didn’t want to do this stuff with him running often at the beginning of the year.

John Spiropoulos

One thing I’ve noticed is that Dak Prescott has similar footwork to Fields and it’s never, ever, ever, ever spoken about. Why is that?

Ste Parkinson

That 50/50 ball 45-yards downfield to Kmet, he’s not throwing that if it’s anyone else other than DJ. This shows how much confidence he has with Kmet: he knows the safety won’t look back but Kmet will.

Ste Parkinson

Moore got his ankle turned on the first play of the game and was pretty much just running decoy all game after they wrapped him

Scott Surma

Justin and Getsy both need to be looking for work else where a month from now…

Brandon Harris

either? Fields just needs real coaches, in Chicago or elsewhere. Williams, good luck with that.

GREG DROHAN

what does getsy bring other than 'Here is how aaron rodgers does X, now you will too'.

GREG DROHAN

I believe in JTO and I believe in JF1 - JF1 wins this game for the Bears by himself- to me the QB doesn’t believe in the scheme, coaches or personnel outside of 85 and 2- draft a QB and bring JF back with a new OC

Peter Van Der Mije

This dropback is 100% what he is being told to do, it didn't look like this at OSU or as a rookie even, I think he could pull a Tua if the right coach comes in and tried to scheme to Fields strengths instead of being a Rodgers copycat but I think Williams is most likely the choice at 1.1 (which I'll go out on a limb and say I don't believe he will be successful in the NFL either)

Timothy Tyrrell

DJ Moore was hurt all game. Had some blocking issues and just overall kind of stunk it up. He got hurt early in the game and has already been hurt for the last couple of weeks

Seth Buchholtz

#80 is some random wide receiver. The ESPN depth chart says he is on IR. That’s how irrelevant he is

Seth Buchholtz

#85 and #2 were both hurt in the 1st quarter. As a Bears fan, I dont even know who #80 is LOL

Leg0pc

I've went back and watched JF when he was at OSU and noticed his footwork and release were so much cleaner and faster than what it is now. The main difference I can see, is Getsy changed his stance in the shotgun from a left foot back or even foot stance to a right foot back, because this is what Rodgers did in Green Bay. This has caused Fields to stutter step in his drop and do a double crow hop when he is setting to throw. He needs to get back to what worked for him at OSU and basicially his entire life until Getsy got ahold of him.

Bill4632

At the end of the video, JT says it’s just not good enough and Justin doesn’t trust it. I think that’s exactly right, and I think a significant amount of that is on coaching. Certainly Justin isn’t playing as well as he should be, but he did play much freer and crisper before this staff got here, as you point out. And week after week, JT points out all the mistakes on seemingly every play and the mistakes are all over the field: protections, routes, missed assignments, ridiculous play calls. How could any QB trust this offense? And I’m convinced they’re telling Justin to protect the ball at all costs, no turnovers, and that’s what’s slowing down his processing and causing him to turn down open receivers. I base that on the press conferences from Getsy, Flus, and Fields throughout the season. I love Justin, I wish he would be the Bears QB for the future, but I don’t see how he succeeds in Chicago given what a debacle it’s been around him with that franchise.

Kevin

I agree. I think the organization let him down stripping everything down and using a bottom 5 WR/TE /Line with 1st year HC & OC in year 2. Justin has flaws that can be coached up. Bears organization, fans and media should really ask themselves was this an environment to develop a QB? I pray you all get Caleb and actually develop him.

Rick

I’m a Chicago fan and have not moved on. I think Getsy has hurt fields especially to start the year. 1. Kmet out with a knee after halftime. 2. Moore has had a bum ankle for a few games and injured it again. I’d like to see what Fields does in a good scheme and with a good center. I think they may cut ties but I hope they bring in a real OC and we see him take the next step. I’d like to see another WR maybe MHJ and a center. Bring in a OC and see one more year of fields. Team would be better for a new QB at that point anyway.

Sean Easton

I think this coaching unit is teaching the slow drop back (first year tape looks a lot cleaner in the drop back). As for the hesitation, I feel it's on both not trusting the call and not trusting the wide receivers. Personally for Justin I think he needs a change of scenery and a coach who believes in him as Chicago's media and fans have already moved on.

mattybaxter1231

Kmet and moore are injured i believe. Don't quote this as factual.

king Steph

Also, Moore got hurt on that first 6 yard catch. Had an ankle issue coming in that was aggravated by the tackle. Looked hobbled to an extent all game

Robert Moauro

DJ hurt his already hurt ankle

Bonez

At the 7 minute mark on the bomb to kmet, Mooney runs toward the safety instead of flattening the route to keep separation. Im wondering if receivers typically have the autonomy to flatten a corner route to prevent running into a defender? Looks like if fields threw it to Mooney he would have run right into the safety

Robert Moauro

JT do you mind if we clip these and use some of the bits for twitter?

Kiernan Lundgren

Here we go!

Kiernan Lundgren

Let’s go!
