This time, we’re revisiting the two episodes we recorded with Josephine McAdam. The first, “Horror For the Nervous”, left us both with a lot of second thoughts. We have even more to say about “The Appeal of Vampires”, although most of that is research and ideas we didn’t have time to fit into the original discussion.

Totally agree re Fever Dream. Another book I'd highly recommend is by Barbara Hambly, Immortal Blood aka Those Who Hunt the Night, 1988. An Edwardian investigator is hired to find out who is killing London's vampires... by a vampire. It really is an outstanding story, that seems to get rarely mentioned.

2025-03-23 13:58:12 +0000 UTCAn unlikely source of vampire lore (and Lovecraftian horror) is the hard sf novel Blindsight by Peter Watts. His vampires are a smarter/faster/meaner human subspecies who go into seizures when they see right angles - the "crucifix glitch". Don't worry though, drugs can suppress this and nothing could possibly go wrong with using the drugs to control the situation.
