New tax requirements
Added 2020-06-30 23:25:29 +0000 UTCYou're probably hearing this elsewhere as well, but Patreon is now required by law to charge you service tax (VAT, GST) across much of the US and some other places. (The EU has already had this rule in place for a long time.) Therefore a lot of people are going to see some small increases to the amount that you're paying each month.
As a part of this process I've been required to list the rewards you get for your pledges for tax purposes. This is a vague and complex thing, but hopefully the settings I've chosen will not represent an excessive increase on you. (I've followed Patreon's recommendations.)
It's nothing to freak out about; it just happens to be in response to some law that was passed a couple of years ago and businesses have been given a lead-in time to slowly gear up for it. Now that the new financial year is starting this is where businesses like Patreon have to start implementing it.
