Update - Fumi re-renders

tl;dr - I've put out a bonus for $10 patrons on the Discord server! Plus PAL 2.0 is nearly ready!

BONUS FOR $10 PATRONS!

If you're a $10 patron then you should go over to the Discord group right now to get a special bonus I've released there! It's a pdf file containing deleted scenes from PAL that I think you might like. Just look in the "10-dollar-patrons" channel for it.

This week's image

So the picture above is a re-render of Fumi's "wake up BJ" scene. I re-rendered this one (as with many of the others) for the sake of nicer, more realistic lighting and textures which make the scene look a lot better. Here's the original:

Now you can also get a much better view of what's happening in the scene, I feel. The room's supposed to be dark since Kenji just woke up, but I'm able to do dim lighting a lot better now.

Here's another one; this is of one of the early shots of Po-chan in the house and I redid it mostly because the original picture that was in there didn't really match the lighting for the hallway that you could see in the other shots that crop up around the same time, so it really stuck out. When something's inconsistent it can be a little jarring.

I'd like to re-render all the older pictures in the game that stick out, but that's not going to be possible. For one thing, a bunch of them weren't done by me so they would need to be replaced completely, which would be quite time consuming. For the ones I've made, though, there are also some that would just be a pain to redo for various reasons; for example, the Kimiko "wake up BJ" picture save file seems to be lost to time - I accidentally saved over the scene at some point, so I'd have to make it from scratch again (and I quite like it, so I don't want to do it worse this time). Also, any animations are a real hassle to render/photoshop, so I'm not keen to do that any time soon.

PAL 2.0 almost ready!

I'm almost done with my testing and fixes for PAL 2.0, so the release should be coming very soon. The thing is that I did a lot of bug fixes in my last round of testing, so now I have to test whether my fixes are working, or if I've broken anything new. Also, the game's really big so I didn't really see everything in the last couple of rounds of tests.

Once it's finished I'll need to upload the game, which will take a good while because my upload speed is terrible and it takes over all my bandwidth. When uploading 2gb (since I'll be putting up an .exe version of the game too this time) that means my whole Internet connection effectively gets shut down for like, 16-20 hours. I need to do it in bursts when it's not needed for other things.

I think the ones that probably stick out the most are the ones that Phinn made; I can't easily replace those because I didn't make them in the first place, unfortunately. I've had a strange trajectory in developing games that as I've got more professional, I've actually tended to bring in other people less and less, so I just have more control over the output. Anyway, I hope that it's not too jarring to see different styles in there from time to time.

Definitely looking forward to it. I just did a playthrough yesterday, can't wait to run the harem playthrough with 2.0 :) The most jarring scenes for me were the fumi/hana scenes were some old renders with very different (worse quality by far) style are used. Some Rio scenes had this old rendering too but wasn't as bad.
