Hi! I'm happy to share the beta version of the FastROM (3.58 MHz) patch for U.N. Squadron. This patch is part of the SA-1 Root conversion of the game for understanding how the game works and to validate if the disassembly is correct. This patch will make the game up to 33% faster compared to the 2.68 MHz SlowROM version.
You can download the BPS patch under the attachments section of this post. You must patch it against the original U.N. Squadron (USA version). If you don't know how to apply BPS patches, check out this page: https://sneslab.net/wiki/How_to_apply_ROM_patches
If you would like to check if the files are correct, here is the checksums before / after applying the patch:
Original ROM (2.68 MHz) - CRC32: 231F0F67 - SHA256: 0B155A54B6134601FC0791252A63CA73EFD522667C3D6FD7A44F5B3C500039D7
Patched ROM (3.58 MHz) - CRC32: 25BDAF1F - SHA526: 10CFC2C04D6B31453DB20725749B74A6A7D0A40DA506AB15CF42EE5F21299827
Please let me know if this patch works as expected and how effective it is against SlowROM. Does my patch makes the game play faster than the original? How much slowdown is still left and what's the slowest places of the game?
This is very important for letting me know how much of the game will have to be modified for the SA-1 version.
Once again, thank you all patrons for supporting my work! If you are not a patreon, consider supporting me for more SNES patches :)
