A little bonus

When you arrive at the pool you find that the girls are already there waiting for you. You smile as you drink in the sight of them in their bathing costumes. Janey's wet - looks like she's already been swimming - but Debbie looks kind of uncomfortable. And no wonder! Her flesh-tone nipples are exposed by the skimpy swimsuit she's wearing!

'I wanted to wear something nice and slutty for you,' she explains as she tugs on one side of the chest of the costume, trying to cover up her nipple. It doesn't work; she only manages to pull it further off the nipple on the other breast. 'But I think I went a bit overboard. This thing doesn't even fit my tits.'

If you recognise these characters then I presume you've played and remember my older Crossworlds series of games. It strikes me that at this point a lot of people who have played my other games may not have played the Crossworlds series, considering they have been unavailable for quite a while due to technical and other issues, and they run on out of date software.

This scene never actually happens in the games, I was just mucking around with Daz Studio and for the first time I decided to put together designs for these two characters in my current graphics setup. Putting them in swimsuits just seemed like a sexy idea, as I don't have full outfits for them yet. I know I probably should have included Lin, but I didn't have time to make another character as it takes a good while to design characters and I needed to get back to programming the combat system.

I thought about whether to do the character designs in a more 'conventional' style; that is, doing them with Victoria 4 character models instead of Aiko 4 character models. Aiko is an anime style character model, that I started using because I was making Pervert Action games, with a distinct and deliberate anime style. Crossworlds, while a colourful and unrealistic story, is not an anime inspired story at all and doesn't necessitate that style to make it work right. That said, the Victoria models (which you would have seen in other 3D art, like Goblinboy's for example) tend to feel to me like they fall into uncanny valley territory a little bit. That's not me taking a swipe at anyone else's work - it's just a matter of taste, I think.

Anyway, I found myself thinking that fans of my work might actually like my style, perhaps for the same reason that I chose this style - if you have a slightly cartoonish look then the unreal elements of the 3D art are a little easier to accept. Therefore if I was ever going to make a design of Janey, Debbie or anyone else from Crossworlds, why not do it in the style I've been honing for several years now?

Anyway, this isn't your weekly update, it's just a little bit of bonus fun. I'd love to hear what you think of it!

That swimsuit is pretty sexy though. I for one find that kind of barely dressed look to be super hot. Bigger hips and boobs on Debbie would help differentiate the 2 of them ;) I think you're right about Debbie, she seems like a prototypical fantasy blonde in terms of attitude. I guess I have to play the series again!

This is maybe the issue with animating those characters - as they never had any (official) illustration before people were able to imagine them how they would in their own mind's eye, and it's difficult for my own animation skills to compete with players' imagination. I may at some point take a try at making a Victoria version of the characters, I don't know. I already outlined my reasons for personally preferring Aiko, but that may not be a majority view. BTW, I've heard that other people before pictured Debbie as a blonde - that's always surprised me since I did always say she dies her hair pink, but I thought I'd mention that you're not the only person who's said that to me. :) Maybe it's something about her character that people think of as inherently blonde.

Janey looks anorexic and for some reason I always pictured Debbie as a blonde. They're attractive enough for the style, but I think I'd prefer the Victoria models better for those characters. In fact, I would bet that if you put this picture next to a Victoria version of the same girls, most people would choose the latter.
