Covid-19 Addition: Sylvie's Technique Vlog - Training Yourself Anywhere (15 min)

If you are new to my Patreon I try to put up one full length technique vlog, discussing vlog style (not demoing) techniques I'm working on. Because so many people are out of the gym right now I thought it would be best to switch it a little and talk about what one can do training oneself.  Watch the video above.

You can't always get to the gym. Maybe you're traveling. Maybe you're schedule only allows you to go a few times per week or even month. Right now, due to Public Health concerns, many gyms around the world are closing their doors and citizens are being asked to practice "social distancing." The Muay Thai Library is literally a library. So, if you can't get to a gym and are spending more time at home, as a patron, you happen to be "stranded" in a library... tons of technique and strategy to delve into. And if you're not able to go train at the gym, I've made a Technique Vlog specifically for how to work on skills and technique at home, to keep improving until the dust settles, so to speak.

Since the very beginning of my Muay Thai journey, I've had to learn how to train myself. Do not mistake this statement for, "I made myself," because it's not that at all. I am endlessly grateful and aware of the generosity that so many people have put into teaching me and making me anything and everything that I am right now, and will be in the future. Myself included. What I mean is that, even since I first was taking lessons from Master K in his basement, the commute to those lessons was an hour in each direction, which meant a lot of the work I did to really learn those techniques and skills was done on my own, in the cabin in the woods where Kevin and I lived. Right now I'm away from my home gym in Pattaya, spending a month up in Chiang Mai to focus on creating content (for you all, my supporters). So I'm not at regular training sessions and I'm using the skill set I've developed over the years to keep training myself in unfamiliar and sometimes un-guided environments. I can knee the bag, shadow, do conditioning all on my own because I've spent years directing myself at my gym. But some of us can't even get into a gym right now - and sometimes that happens even under much less stressful circumstances, if you're traveling for example, so these are all examples of things you can do anywhere. No equipment required; a wall, a tree, a leaf, or just empty space can all be completely useful for improving your Muay Thai, not only as a "holdover" until you get back to the gym, but as a real thing that can be part of your training always and anywhere.

Thats awesome. I have been teeping my trees and kicking them (not the thai kick though lol). I really like the wall idea to improve the accuracy of the cross and those knee drills. I like to try to be creative and do different combos and fight styles each day.

This was really helpful, thank you! Great way to get back to fundamentals and technique.

This is excellent, thanks so much Sylvie..

Housebound thanks to COVID-19 Sylvie, these technique vids are amazing! Can't wait to return to training in a few months with my technique shockingly better than before!

Awesome Ideas. going to be doing these for sure.

This is so kind of you to offer, Sylvie. I just moved near to Master K, and was going to call him to start private lessons today, but then NY / NJ got super shut down, and I don't want to make an aging gentleman feel at risk. So it's gonna be me taking a lot of your suggestions for the next 2 weeks, I reckon... Thanks again!

Thanks from Germany ! That's very thoughtful!
