Reacting to Young Royals Season 3 - Episode 6

Goooooooood morning beautiful people,

Today is the day... we say goodbye to Young Royals. Let me tell you I was NOT ready for how emotional I was going to be about this. Saying goodbye to any show always leaves a void in my heart but this one was particularly hard.

See you in the comments,

Love always ♥️

Comments

thank you so much for giving us non patreon subscribers the opportunity to watch your Young Royal reactions today, it took me right back to when I watched it the first time by myself and cried so much at the finale I ended up having a horrible headache. It's such an amazing show and I love how emotionally vulnerable and attentive you are in your reactions, it was very enjoyeable and relatable! I will miss this show but I'm also glad in a way that they stopped at the highest point and have left us with such a beautiful ending. Me personally, as horrible as he's been I've never fully hated August and this last season they really did an incredible job at fleshing out his character, making us empathize without excusing his past actions. His actor did his job so amazingly, but so did the entire cast honestly.

When you started crying the first time I wasn't sure you'd make it. I cried every time you did and every time I see this episode. Would love to see your reaction to the documentary on YouTube.

Desiree M.

lisa mcarthur

wonderful. you should react to the documentary as well!

Rhonda Black

The poem that miss Ramirez is reading when the headmistress comes to tell them about the closing of the school is also a Karin Boye poem.

Natasja Mrdjanov

thanks so much for an awesome journey! have watched you react to all of the YR seasons and have really loved them. i dont think there'll ever be another show like it.. lisa and the cast and crew are just amazing. i saw edvin say in an interview that he feels that last look at the camera is like them "handing the characters over to the viewer to dream up how they live the rest of their lives together (paraphrased)" and that "they're going to be just fine." the maturity edvin and omar brought to the series is just so amazing. i still can't believe it's omars first shot at acting. also, i saw someone else mention that you've already seen "young royals forever" - but if ever you feel like giving it another watch and reacting to it it'd be greatly received! hope your trip is going well!

LM-Entertainment Australia

back here again but i got chills when we see Wille dump the broken snow globe that Erik had given him from their grandfather….and then the queen herself puts a frog prince graduation necklace around his neck and Wilhelm tells him “congratulations”

veri✨

That was a wonderful reaction 🫶🏻. I just read that you already seen the documentary Young Royals forever. How about reacting to the interview made with the cast the day that the last episode droped. The cast watched the final episode with 400 fans in Stockholm. They brought the cast up on the stage afterwards and interviewed them about the show. It was really sweet 💜💙. The interview is in english if you want to watch it. https://youtu.be/cSO8Ld7aKNE?si=xJp5Hbs85z81S3lF

Thank you for this lovely reaction! I did not cry as much as I did on my first watch (that one I pretty much cried through the whole episode) I have loved going on this journey with you, hearing your thoughts and seeing how deeply it affected you, thank for sharing that with us. I do have to ask, would you have said you need to hydrate before I began pestering you, or has my pestering you made you more aware of your hydration habits? 🧐

Erin

i loved your reaction, it was such a good ending!! Boris cheering Wille on during the montage, and him throwing away the snow globe, something that represents the crown. (wrote a bunch on discord about it) I love how he used Simon's words when explaining why he had to leave to his mom. I just reminds me of the conversation at the end of episode 4 where he said that he does learn stuff from simon. he really took it to heart and used it in this conversation. i think i missed it before when watching, but i love Luvig's small nod/smile at the end of the conversation. and of course the final wall break was amazing, finally free and happy for the first time in one.

Dan

I agree it is Simon's strength of character that makes the ending possible. Even though he is hurting he only wants Wille to be ok and to know he is a great person as he is. And that is what he says with that song. Then to say he didn't give up on them but gave up on the royal family...he did all he could for Wille without sacrificing himself.

MIchelle Arbery

I'm glad you chose to watch it in private and just enjoy the depth of feeling that comes with that. Good on you I do look forward to hearing your comments on it if and when you are ready.

MIchelle Arbery

I agree. The Simon character is amazing and Omar played in a beautifully understated way. Simon's tears in the final scene were so poignant. Tears for Wille I'm choosing himself. Tears of relief and disbelief that they can try again and just be "us".

MIchelle Arbery

You could see the peace in Wille's eyes. How did Edvin do that ?!

MIchelle Arbery

Thankyou Jackie. Your authentic reactions always free me up to be emotionally free too. Would love a follow up video to hear you talk about it all more. So important that those four chose what was right for them. I think Wille always had social democratic leanings which he always wanted to go to a public school when we first met him. And Simon mirrored that and set him free. Simon was such a brave character. There will never be another Young Royals. Nothing close. Thanks again Jackie.

MIchelle Arbery

Oh, Jackie. I love your reactions so much and I don’t have anything to add, I just appreciate your vulnerability and sincerity. It’s so beautiful. Thank you ❤️

Kimberly Green

You are right! This was actually up there with the ending of Skam S4..

annanas

Thank you Jackie for the YR reactions, loved them all! Sad it's over, kind of weirdly sad for August, but that last break of the forth wall gave me so much peace.. Wilhelm will be ok!!!!

annanas

Good for You Jackie!!

Diane Furlong

I think the best shows are the ones that “stick the landing,” as I like to call it. I think this show absolutely does it, in the same way I think Skam does it (both the ending of season three and the ending of the entire series) and (whenever you and Courtney get around to finally reacting to it) Bad Buddy does. The ending here is well earned and incredibly satisfying, in a way some happy endings aren’t quite. I think there are hints that it’s coming, including Wille dumping the broken frog snow globe, and it’s the fact that he makes the decision to abdicate because it’s the best thing for him that makes it truly satisfying. The performances in this last episode are particularly good from all five of our main characters, and I have to say that to me, at least, some of the strongest scenes in the series have been the ones between Wille and August, and the scene between the two of them at the party is among the best from both of them. A scene doesn’t have to be flashy and overwrought to be powerful, and they both underplay that scene in exactly the right way.

Lane Wright

Really great points. I forgot about the S2E1 declaration! Man, Lisa is amazing. I miss this show so much already.

snallahej

Thanks Jackie I cried again😃 This episode was an emotional rollercoaster for me🥹

Anja

The poem he uses is sköldmon or the shield maiden in English. The first verse Jag drömde om svärd i natt. Jag drömde om strid i natt. Jag drömde jag stred vid din sida rustad och stark, i natt. In English I dreamed about swords last night. I dreamed about battle last night. I dreamed I fought by your side armoured and strong, last night.

veri✨

Oh wow I didn’t know about the poem. That is very deep. I was very worried going in to season three mainly because of the fact that Sara mentioned Karin Boye committed suicide. And more so because Wille told Felice the episode before that he feels like he’s gonna die… So when I saw that book during the last episode i was like “nooo”. What calmed me down was the moment Wille threw the broken snow globe into the bin. This show and its parallels and meta layers are just like no other!!!

Frances

The last words you had about each character were so wonderfully put. I cried at the same moments as you did when I first watched this very last episode…. The lake scene as well as Wille’s song and of course the final scene broke me and I even had to pause in between while watching. No show has done this to me before 💜 I’m very happy with that ending. And now I’m even more excited about my trip to Sweden this summer where I certainly will also visit “Hillerska” 🥹 The only thing that worries me, since you had such a hart time letting that beautiful series go, is: what are we gonna do with you once Heartstopper will come to an end? 🥺🙈

Frances

Ok, I will have to buy more tissues, but it’s going to be worth it..Hope you’re having a wonderful time in the States and I am kind of glad for the emotional respite in the meantime! ❤️👑❤️😭

Ruth May

Yes, I really appreciate all the music choices from season 1 onwards, how they’re used so tellingly to amplify the mood, point up and comment on what’s just happening or is about to happen. Whoever was responsible for the soundtracks should be applauded and given an immediate pay rise!

Ruth May

I agree with all of this. 👍🥰

Ruth May

Thanks for letting me experience watching it again as if for the first time.

Lisa

So I think the reason that the book crisis is so important is because of the conversation they had in season two but I think something that Simon said in that conversation is very incredibly important in the story as a whole. One of the things he said was “ malin(the protagonist)discovers that she wants to change her life because of what she learns from her feelings for Siv” This is a quote that I kept going back to this entire season and when I was thinking about what season three could hold . And I just felt like it was a very important quote. because love isn’t the reason wilhelm made the decision he made, but it is the catalyst. Falling in love with Simon inherently changed who he was, and the way he saw what his future could look like. Not only that, but it also challenged his beliefs about the system he grew up in the same way that Malins ideals about religion are challenged when she falls in love with this other woman. There’s a lot of media subtext to talk about in regards to the show and to the author karin boye herself. I don’t know if people realized it, but in episode one Wille tapes one of her poems to his wall next to his photo of the two of them.

veri✨

I've already seen Young Royals Forever. I decided to take something for myself and watch it for the first time without filming a reaction. I will react to it for Patreon when I get back from the states.

I love that Sara and Simon made such a difference to this school and their friends. Sara's honesty and insight led to Felice becoming more herself. Sara choosing herself over her father's needs in Season 1 led to Felice standing up to her mother. Sara gave Felice the perspective of her friends in the school as just good time friends, not really there for her existential crisis about the school and it's abuses. Maddie tries to ease the tensions, but she doesn't help Felice decide what to do with the pressure she is under. Simon's convictions make the students look at things a bit differently. Even as he's being bullied by Vincent - frank discussions about class are first being talked about at the boys' lunch table. Simon's song and what it's about for the school and the students is something they can get behind.

Dionne Lakey

I love that Simon's passion and determination is what saved them. He showed Wille a way out, by not only getting out from under the system himself, but giving Wille the words to use to talk to his boss about why he needs to leave. "I see how it makes you feel." "The people don't get a choice. You don't get a choice. What kind of life is that?" is what he says to him down by the lake in episode 4. Then Wille uses that same compassion that Simon had for him to empathise with both of his parents' positions in the system. Simon's song helps him reflect on what he has told Simon himself. That everything is fake but Simon. And that he said he could be free, and how (Simon is reminding him about when he told him that August was his spare). Simon also validates him in the song. On his ability to love Simon and be loved by Simon. That who he is, fully, even his grief, is allowed to shine and be seen. He even allows Wille the closure he needs to say all he wants to Simon as a final break up. That lake scene is freaking awesome - it should win awards on its own. The improvisation. The cinematography. The music. The acting and directing. The call backs of caring touches (Simon tucking Wille's hair behind his ear at the lake). Wille really did choose himself, but the catalyst was Simon. Simon brought out the courage he already had.

Dionne Lakey

Oh my Goodness! How Beautiful! Jackie I’ve cried right along with you. I loved how they revisited so many of the important pieces from throughout the series. August matured greatly this Season. Victor was the antagonist through this season for me. Resolution on many counts. It took me a minute to warm up to the show in the beginning but I caught on pretty quickly. Thanks so much Jackie.

Diane Furlong

I wholeheartedly agree with everything everyone above has said. What a rollercoaster, fantastic, magical, most incredible finale of a show I think I've ever seen. The writing and acting is just phenomenal and gets me everytime just as hard, if not harder than the last. Thank you for reacting to this incredible show Jackie, we have all been here right beside you along for this incredible reaction journey. Like others have said, I highly highly recommend checking out and reacting to Young Royals Forever, the bts documentary to give yourself (and also us haha) the desperate closure we all need <3

Megan Brady

This season and especially the last episode were a real emotional ride. As you said at the end of Episode 5: "Lisa really wrote one hell of a script." What Young Royals did really brilliantly across all 3 seasons was the often subtle symbolism: I think the reason why Wille looks at the book "Crisis" the way he does here is more for the memories of the group work with Simon in season 2 and the shared insights that they both learned from the book for their relationship, rather than the aspect that the author committed suicide. And when Simon and Wille meet in the library it is the same book that Simon is holding when Wille speaks to him - symbolism ala Young Royals^^ Anotherone is when Wille throws the snow globe with the frog prince in the trash, August is given a frog pendant by the queen at his graduation ceremony - a sign that the title of crown prince will pass from Wille to August. So when August becomes crown prince at the end, things come full circle to Season 2 Episode 1 when Wille talks with Felice and said: "I will punish him in my own way, you will see." With his renunciation of the crown and August's realization that the royal life is not so desirable after all, Wille has achieved exactly that. And August realizes this when he sees Wille leaving his parents' car - he suspects what happened. That's why you see him looking into the camera in shock. And can we please highlight Simon's heart of gold? What the poor guy had to go through especially this season and then he writes a farewell song in which he gives his "ex-boyfriend" tips on how he can find himself and inner peace?! What's really interesting is that nearly everyone actually has the same reaction to Simon's song for Wille, but Omar and Edvin really hated the song at first :D The first song heard at the party is "Revolution" - the same as the soccer field scene from S1 Ep.4 and the final scene from S1 Ep.6. And if I'm not completely wrong, it's also playing as party music while Wille talks to his parents in the car. Music choice on point I would say.

I think there are times when you are me, because we both started crying at the same moment and for the same reasons. There’s too much to say about Young Royals and especially about this finale and as someone who tends to write long comments anyway, I think some self-restraint is called for! 😂 So-just a few things: I knew as soon as Wille dropped the shattered frog Prince snow globe in the waste paper basket that it was going to be Wilmon endgame, because that for me felt like one of the most potent symbols running through the entire show. At that point, I checked the clock and thought, There’s still time’..🙏 I saw you thinking exactly that too. About the singing of Simon’s version of the school song, Lisa said in an interview some time ago, that it was also intended as a love song to all the fans of the show, so it’s for us too, to remember the series and what it’s meant to us. So hearing that made me start my second box of tissues… Thanks for all the Young Royals reactions, Jackie. ❤️ I love that the boys and Sara and Felice had the ending they deserved, although by making the final shot of them in the car with the school disappearing behind them in a shot through the rear window, Lisa is surely saying, ‘This is just the beginning of the new beginning, not the end’. My new and final tattoo is going to be Simon and Wille’s joined hands, an image from the scene in the changing room in season 1 after the video was posted by August, because I think the image that will stay with me from Young Royals is their joined hands and how it signifies their connection, a symbol that is threaded through the entire series and that we also see in their final scene together in the car as Simon turns to look at Wille. Please react to the YR Forever documentary to give us full closure! 🙏 Who am I kidding? I don’t think I can be the only one feeling that’s impossible with Young Royals. ❤️👑❤️

Ruth May

I have no real words at the moment other than my pillow is now soaked with tears, this is my third time watching it and it still gets me. I will however put in something I said to Ingrid when we were talking about it which is this: I too feel that if he had stayed within the ‘family’ he would have gone a lot more within himself, he would have lost what made him Wille and the amount of pressure he would be under would have made him eventually resent the job and the people around him. Doing what he did by choosing love and being able to choose to do something with his life that he is really interested in and chooses himself to do. I think that sends more of a message than to be stuck doing something you don’t want to be doing .

Audrey Gunn

I’m awake at 3:30 but I think I’lll wait until I’m a little more alert. Be back to watch in a little while. Okay it’s now 6:30. I suppose I’m awake enough but I’m not sure if I’m prepared. Let’s go.

Diane Furlong

I’m just sitting down to watch this. No show previously has ever affected me like Young Royals and I don’t think I could ever tire of it. Knowing that you were going to react to the finale soon, I started re-watching season 1 and 2. For the complete package, I really hope you’ll react to the documentary, Young Royals Forever, also on Netflix. It’s really interesting, surprisingly moving (Yeah, more tissues required) and brings home just how much the show has meant to the whole cast, but especially Edvin and Omar. ❤️👑❤️

Ruth May

I love this show so much and I just cried along with you. I don't think I can get through this episode without crying. As I watched this the first time there were so many details I thought you would pick up on and you didn't disappoint. Thank you for another great reaction. Hugs 🫂

Cathy Mills

What an awesome ending, so beautiful! I am so happy, will miss this show. I loved when it when August and Willem finally apologized to each other. Willem and Simon, love wins 🏳️‍🌈🌹❤️

Magical Adorabella

So ready for this after work 😬🫶🏻. Please react to the documentary about Young Royals that Netflix released the same day as the last episode. It is called Young Royals forever 💙💜. I think you will love it. We get to see the auditiontapes from the actors, tablereading, shoting the last scen and interviews with Lisa and the crew. Please react to it next 🙏🏻❤️.

Marstrand

I’m beyond excited for this! And ready to cry again 🥺💜
