Rewatching Young Royals Season 2 - Episode 3

Gooooood evening Patreon family,

We are jumping straight back into young royals today and WOOF today is a rough one but it does feature some of my favourite scenes (especially the Lonely Ones scene)

T-MINUS 6 DAYS!!!

Love, always ♥️

Great reaction Jackie! I’m so happy you’re feeling better. Your singing voice seems so much stronger.

Diane Furlong

I am sure you’re right about that! 🫣

Ruth May

Ruth, I have no idea. I can tell you this, there will be plenty of Nordic drama.

Dennis Verner

Without question Ruth.

I’m coming clean here to admit that this episode was so painful to watch last time that I am verrry reluctant to rewatch it, even in such good company, so I am going to put it off until the end of season 3. Either I’m a coward or the acting is so stellar that it feels too real to bear, or (probably) both..so my comments are from memory and I went straight to episode 4!

Ruth May

Agreed and although they’re individually amazing, they’re even more so when they’re together, in my opinion. 🫠

Ruth May

Oh please, yes! I respect whatever Lisa has decided is the resolution, but I know that my heart will only accept a really happy ending. No ‘Nordic sadness’ in the final scene, please! 🤞🙏

Ruth May

I even find Marcus hugging Simon at the karaoke when he hardly knows him creepy.

MIchelle Arbery

I clearly either did not pay very good attention the first time I watched these or I blocked things out… Thank you for taking us along on this journey to the past, it does ease the heartache of it all to have someone to share the experience with… Also thank you for another lovely song at the start of the video, you have such a lovely voice, and I love how much passion you have for musical theatre…

Jackie, with your cinematic sense and your feeling for theatre, season 2 is act 2 of a three act play. And the end of this episode is a perfect book end for the play at this point in the story. Simon goes to Marcus' apartment and tries to recreate his first lovemaking with Wille. Wille, now very distraught over Simon tries to recreate his first lovemaking with Simon by making a botch of it with Felice. It's so clear, at this point, that the boys are still very much in love with one another. Season 1 (Act 1), the Setup. Season 2 (Act 2), the Confrontation. Season 3 (Act 3), the Resolution. The only problem is, what form will the "Resolution" take? Revolution?

Dennis Verner

From an acting standpoint that scene in class when everyone has chosen books. Wille asks Simon about Marcus. It's all closeups on their faces. Watch their reactions. Simon (those eyes!) not owing Wille an explanation but giving it anyway. Wille so concerned that there must be something going on. And then when Simon says they are not together, the tiniest of smiles on Wille's face. These guys are just amazing. It's breathtaking.

Dennis Verner

I probably said this before, but one of the things I like in this series is that as much as we justifiably dislike August, he is not a one-dimensional, stereotype villain. He does have a difficult background that at least explains part of why he is what he is, even though it doesn’t justify it. He does have moments of clarity, like when he says that Vincent is going to be much worse than he was, and even takes the mature stand that this rowing competition doesn’t really mean anything and isn’t worth the importance Vincent is putting on it. And yes, I think he actually finds himself having genuine feelings toward Sara. But eventually, he always devolves back into the worst parts of his nature. (it doesn’t hurt that Malte plays him so well and with really a good deal of subtlety).

Lane Wright

Absolutely. Any reason to shoot Marcus is fine with me and I think it’s telling that it’s Marcus kissing Simon and not a mutual kiss at all. He also refers to the team smashing it next time (year? I am going from memory here as I haven’t re-watched this episode yet) as if they’re in a long-term, committed relationship. What happened to, ‘we can take it slow’? I don’t like him. Can you tell? 😡

Ruth May

I also gotta mention the moment when Wille confronts Simon about knowing Marcus. After Simon tells Wille that they aren’t together you can see how Wille’s facial expressions slightly change. It’s so subtle but you can see that he’s becoming hopeful again. Edvin is an amazing actor! Jackie, I believe you said that during the reactions to Heartstopper S2 that Kit and also Edvin have the ability to act in a very subtle yet affective way. That scene is the perfect example!

Frances

Marcus… where do I even begin?!!! I mean we’ve discussed plenty of times that he’s been gaslighting Simon. But to also have the audacity to show up at the rowing match (although Simon said he doesn’t need to) and kissing Simon publicly (obviously without consent) in front of Wille, behaving as if Simon has been his boyfriend for years 🙄🙄🙄 makes me so angry! I really hope we don’t get to see him in S3!

Frances

Jackie! If you want to see the pretty royal palace where the royals actually live in Stockholm its actually Drottningholm which coincidentally is on the same bus line as the bus that goes to Kaggeholm :)

veri✨

Thank you ❤️

IAmom

Wow! That was quick! I will watch this with you tomorrow morning. I found it really difficult to get through this episode first time around and even knowing how it all pans out in episodes 4-6, it’s still going to be a lot! Too much for tonight, for sure…😭

Ruth May

Jackie, You’re amazing!!! I was expecting this later tonight or even tomorrow….Thank you 🙏🏽
