Reacting to Druck Season 3 - Episode 8

I should have known. I SHOULD HAVE KNOWN.

This show. I cannot. Lured me into a false sense of security and then BOOM... broke me into a million pieces.

What are you guys' thoughts!?

See you in the comments!

Love, always <3

Reacting to Druck Season 3 - Episode 8

Comments

Oops! Unnoticed typo, now fixed!

Lane Wright

In season 1 Matteo‘s parents get divorced. His father moves back to Italy and actually wants to take Matteo with him but Matteo decides to stay with his depressed mother because he is scared to leave her alone. By the way, the pronounciation of Druck rhymes with book 😉

This was a great, heartbreaking episode. I was on edge, waiting for the shoe to drop, and boy did it ever. People are so cruel and it hurts my heart…

Erin

It is. 😔 He was such an important reference for many transmen. A sweet guy.

aahh yesss, I was sooo looking forward for you to react to this episode!!! Druck is just beyound any other version because of the amazing representation! The actor playing David is transgender too!! This show is beyond amazing!!!!

Nicky Van den Bosch

that is heartbreaking :(

Michelangelo Fortuzzi, who plays Matteo, is half italian. In the series, it is hinted a few times that Matteo is also Italian– that's why his friends call him Luigi :)

When David says "I am boy. I just have to try a little harder" it breaks my heart because that's what I listen frequently at the clinic. I would say, in Brazil, transmen have to try a lot harder even with the LGBTQIA+ community to be seen as men. It's a sensitive issue. This leads to the conversation between Hans and Matteo. Again, in Brazil, gay transmen have a hard time to be recognised as men. The boys from the clinic who watched Druck (they were the ones who talked to me about the show) wished things were as Hans says; “that everything else is secondary”. But from these boys experiences it is not most of the time. Two years ago, a trans man (a public figure) who was in an open relationship with a cis gay man committed suicide after a sex video of him was leaked on Twitter and he was the target of appalling abuse from the gay community. It was horrible and opened up an important discussion for the LGBTQIA+ community here.

There are a few interesting interviews, and Q&As with Lucas on YouTube, including some in English, which he speaks very well. I think the show handles the subject matter very well and with a great deal of respect. I do follow someone who is trans and did not like the show because they felt like David being trans was nothing more than a plot device, which he found offensive. I can’t speak against that, since I am not trans, but it never seemed to me to be just a plot device. I don’t know about with Druck, but in the original, there’s not much in any of the other seasons that say more about Isak’s relationship with his mother, but that’s partly because they are being told from the point of view of a different character, and it would seem a little out of place for that to come up.

Lane Wright

They just call him Luigi for fun, cause he’s Italian.

I love the fact that like in Heartstopper with Elle, the actor who plays David is trans in real life as well. I was totally surprised too when I first watched this episode. It broke me….I just love this show!!!
