Reacting to the Red, White and Royal Blue Delete Scene

Goood morning beautiful people,

I wanted to share this video with you ahead of the youtube release this evening. Excited to discuss this in more detail with you all!

Love, always ♥️

Reacting to the Red, White and Royal Blue Delete Scene

Comments

I am here to review and react to these adaptations. I will always compare movies/tv shows to their source material.

Jackie-Ross Lavender

The movie and the book are two different works. I thoroughly enjoyed both, perhaps because I never wanted to pit one against the other.

John Tucker

As a viewer, I completely get the disappointment that this scene was not included. It's brilliant, though a tad over-long and self-indulgent. I know exactly why it was not included. I'm a screenwriter. The mantra of screenwriting is "show don't tell and every scene must advance the plot." This scene is 100% tell. It does not in any way advance the plot.

William Gammon

Agreed. Alex’s journey is so much more in the book and book Alex is a much more fully rounded character to me.

Graham & Ruth May

I haven’t read the book yet so I can’t compare the two, but as an avid reader I can completely understand being frustrated with adaptations that you feel don’t do the story justice. A friend of mine is a huge fan of the Bridgerton series of books and got me into it after I watched the first season. We’ve had many a discussion about the changes and she said something that stick with me. To her, she views the film and series adaptations as fan fiction. It is someone else’s take on the source material that sometimes enhances it and sometimes take away from it but will never change her love of the source. That has kind of helped me to look at it with that perspective. As for this clip, I completely agree that it should have been left in the movie and would have enhanced it. One of the beautiful choices I noticed when I watched the movie was when Henry puts his hand on his heart after he jumped into the water. This scene makes that moment even more poignant. As always, I love your reactions and appreciate your opinions. Looking forward to your in-depth video ❤️

My main issue with the movie was that we completely lost Alex's bisexual journey. In the book he has multiple conversations, realisations and coming out sequences. Talking to Liam and comiong out to June, and Luna all disappeared. And all those conversations were a piece that could have been really useful to people watching the film. The conversation with Liam about how they were basically a couple in HS even though they didn't acknowledge it. June about how she knew something was going on from when he was young (the magazine photo) and Luna actually saying that Alex has the option to hide who he is. All would have been really important pieces of representation and instead we got the polo scene which didn't move the story along at all. Im not angry and it is a good rom com but it had so much more potential.

This is one of the times where I fully agree with watching the movie before reading the book. I've recommended the same to other people about this in particular. The book can really be enjoyed after the movie, because the actors are really good and it's easy to expand on your view of the film when you read the book.

Dionne Lakey

I agree with you, Ingrid and have the same hopes for Ari and Dante. All I would add is that Young Royals feels real to me partly because it isn’t always calm or happy (although, please God, let’s have a happy ending for Wille and Simon 🤞❤️👑❤️) and that’s one of the many factors that makes it so involving for me at least.

Graham & Ruth May

Absolutely! This is 100% a safe space any anyone can voice their opinions just like we don't all agree about the shows we react to.

Jackie-Ross Lavender

All of this totally justifies my decision to watch the movie first. I enjoyed it for what it is, and I enjoyed the book for what it is, and I’m sorry if that makes me foolish in some people’s eyes. I went away from each fully satisfied. This is not to say that I am not totally opinionated about other things, and disappointed about movies and shows that other people have loved. None of us are going to be in 100% agreement about absolutely everything, and that’s fine, as long as you don’t judge other people negatively for liking something you didn’t (or disliking something you did). I don’t think anybody here is doing that, but I’m hoping that this is a safe space to give your honest opinion without fear of being judged for it.

This has nothing to do with Red, White & Royal Blue so I’m sorry about that, but I just wanted to ask if you’re planning on reacting to seasons 1,2 and 4 of the original SKAM at some point? I just recently joined your Patreon so that I could binge all your SKAM reactions, and I absolutely adored every second of it! I know it’s been a while since you watched season 3, but I’d really love to see you reacting to the other seasons as well. Even though the other seasons don’t revolve around Isak and Even, you still get plenty of them in season 4. They even have a part to play in the main storyline, albeit not that huge or anything. Still, I think all four seasons have some amazing storylines and discussions that I’m sure you’d appreciate, especially season 4. I would say just go straight to season 4 if you’re not interested in going through 1 and 2 first, but I do think the storylines in season 4 rely quite heavily on the earlier seasons so you would definitely be pretty lost during some parts. But again, seasons 1 and 2 are good too and you even get some Isak every now and then, although during those seasons it’s the very much still in the closet version of him. Anyway, sorry for rambling on for so long. I obviously understand if you don’t have the time right now, but hopefully you’ll at least consider it for the future. Thanks for reading this far. I’m off to watch all your Heartstopper and Young Royals content now!

I read the book after, and the film still disappointed me. It’s so “what could’ve been,” ya know? I have to view them as two separate pieces because they’re pretty different to me. The film missed out on so many cool things I admired about book-Alex. The pacing was off; the first half set one tone, then they rushed to the end.

snallahej

I agree with all the comments here. I think they focused on the comedy part, as Erin said, mainly because it sells. I feel people are not really open to the hard or deep stuff latety. I've read many times, for example, people who don't like Young Royals because it's sad or many times depressing, things like that. This scene is beautiful. It should have been in the film. That's my main concern about Ari and Dante. I hope it's not only a collection of good scenes as standalones, as Dione said. I am holding to my fellow patreon members feedback who had already watched the film and didn't share this impression. 😊

Ingrid Machado Pena

wow. i hadn't seen this until now. i'm gobsmacked. i wasn't a big fan of the movie; think it needed to be a series and not so cheesy. WHY, did this scene get removed? it's amazing. it's touching. it's heartfelt and poetic. this scene in and of itself would have made me think of the movie more highly. thanks for reacting to it!

LM-Entertainment Australia

I think it’s because there are so many people (like us) who were disappointed in the final that they are like “oh, but look what we filmed but didn’t use!”

Erin

these are my thoughts exactly!

Jackie-Ross Lavender

Agree to this with the whole shoehorning

Dionne Lakey

I agree to this - also deciding that it was going to be a romcom in the first place was a wrong move in my opinion. It's a love story not a romcom. So already the tone was wrong so deep conversations would not have fit the tone.

Dionne Lakey

I also, sorry I have so much to say about this. I also find it weird that amazon is dropping so many cut scenes like this. I've never known it for a project to be dropped and then so many long, cut scenes be released later on. It's almost like they're unsure of their finished product and know that it was inadequate. Grrrr

Dionne Lakey

I agree. I too read the book first and then watched the film, which I enjoyed but found unsatisfying because I too couldn’t separate the book from the film. The film seemed to be conceived as a ‘fun romp’ with a few more serious bits shoehorned in, but it was too short and the build up to their falling in love seemed especially rushed to me. I re-read the book directly after watching the film which made me feel even sadder at the missed opportunity. Quite a few people who didn’t read the book first felt very differently about the film so it would be interesting to hear what they think now if they have read the book in the interim.

Graham & Ruth May

I now have new found respect for good screen editors in movies. It really does take a whole crew to make a good show/movie. The edit completely decides the tone of the thing you've spent months filming. The music placement too. It's almost like they restory-boarded the film AFTERWARDS in the edit. I remember Lisa Ambjörn, the writer of Young Royals talking about how fun and important she finds the editing process in creating a show. They are literally artists, moulding the raw material into a cohesive story. This movie just seemed like a collection of good scenes as standalones with no proper through line. Like they wanted to pay fanservice and give good representation whilst sacrificing the story. Hmmf. I'm still mad.

Dionne Lakey

I literally said the same thing when I sent this to Ingrid, my exact words were 'OMG, why was this scene not in the actual film?' I can only imagine that if all the deleted scenes are like this then the film could have been 100% better than the (my opinion) crap we got. Don't get me wrong, for a rom-com it was great but for a book adaptation of such a fierce and wonderful love story it sucked.

Audrey Gunn

The placing of this scene makes no sense that Henry is surprised by Alex declaring his love on the lake and escaping.

Dionne Lakey

I watched the rwrb premier in London and was so disappointed that I couldn't talk to anyone about it. It has so much potential to be good/better - everyone involved seemed really up for it. I hated the editing and the fact that most of the side characters were completely pointless. Such a waste - so much must have been left on the cutting room floor. They should have made a part 1 and 2 movie.

Dionne Lakey

I agree this, and the other deleted scene would've added so much depth to their relationship buildup.

Meladrix

First of all, look at you dropping teasing comments of cool things coming! I can’t wait to hear whatever the that might be! I agree with your opinion, I feel like the director was focused on the comedy part and in pursuing that he kind of cut the heart of the story out. The little snippets of their emails don’t really portray the deep conversations that went on between them that led to their falling so deeply and totally in love. It’s like they watched a lot of romcoms and said, well this is how all the ones I have seen were so this should be that way too. I may not be making my thoughts clear being almost 2 am, but yeah…

Erin

Totally fair. I really loved the movie, but feel ripped off when I see cut scenes like this. Just adds sooooo much to their story, rather than the story.

Jess Thompson

Thank you for reacting to this 😊 have you already seen the bloopers?

“Can’t say anymore than that”!!! Omg I’m going to take a guess. You rented a studio!! 🥹🏳️‍🌈🏳️‍⚧️🙌👏
