Heartbreak High Reaction - Episode 3

Comments

Darren and Cash are the cutest

I came to the comments seeing if anyone had guessed the musical origins... I was going to guess An American in Paris

As usual, it took me two days to get around to watching this, and but it’s also been hard to find an hour free the last couple of days. I was wondering where that opening song was from, and now I know why it didn’t sound familiar. I did look it up and discovered that basketball is actually pretty popular in Australia. I understand about it not being so popular in the UK and have a story about that: the only time I’ve ever been in the UK was on a group trip to Europe with a bunch of 16 and 17 year olds from several Nashville schools. We stayed in private homes in four countries, and in the UK we all stayed in Andover. One evening there the group of us went to the local boys, school and several of our guys played the best basketball team in Andover. Despite the fact that I’m very tall, I did not play because I am completely non-athletic. But some of the guys who played from our group did play basketball in high school. The result of the game was that our guys beat the best team in Andover, England, 110 to 50. This was in the summer of 1974, by the way.

Unfortunately, you are both wrong :P the song is called Lost in Translations from a very small british musical I adore called Lift

I thought it was Waitress as well so we may be wrong together!!!

Audrey Gunn

Agreed! Darren is the best 😍

Jackie - just a guess really, but is that song that you sing at the beginning of the video from the musical 'Waitress' which I saw in London's West End just before COVID started? I was particularly interested in that performance, as a YouTuber that I have followed for many years featured in the show. It was Joe Sugg (one of the OG YouTubers from about 15 years ago). If my guess is wrong, then please ignore this post.

Can't wait to hear your input on cash's character development as the show progresses! Cashs Nanna is my spirit animal, so funny!. Be patient with harpers storyline. It will all come out in good time. Very important background info for episode 4. The start of the episode has a warning of depictions of police brutality against indigenous persons, there is good reason for this. It's a really important depiction of something that isn't talked about enough here. At the time of this show being filmed, 2020, 28 aboriginal people had died in police custody that year, and aboriginal people are 16 times more likely to experience excessive force from police. If aboriginal people are assaulted or abused by police, it's very unlikely they will report it or go public for fear or retaliation from other cops, or not being believed. Malakai and Missy are the 2 aboriginal characters on this show, and have different slang with each other because of this. It's common for aboriginal people to refer to each other as brother or "bruz" or sister "sis" or "cuz" even if they don't know each other. Also referring to all older aboriginal people as uncle "unc" or auntie is a sign of respect. Episode 4 is my favourite episode, but confronting.

Same Frances. I didn't think this would be a show that I would enjoy, but I love it! I'm also watching with Alex and Josh and with all of you guys. I simply adore Darren.

love your reactions to this show! it's so great! cant wait to see your reaction to ep 4! i love ca$h's character so much. sure, he's definitely not perfect and he's a complex character.. but i just think he's great. his nanna is HILARIOUS as well! for some context - goon is cheap cask wine. a "goon bag" is the bag that the wine comes in.. it kind of has a place in youth culture in australia because it is insanely cheap and nasty and gets people shitfaced.

I just Love hearing you sing 😍 I wonder how you got into singing…? I just love Heartbreak High- didn’t think I would tbh. I already said in one of Alex‘ and Josh‘s reactions: I feel like Spider looks like David Bowie in a way 😅 And again: The intro song makes me want to dance 😍😂🙈

Frances

Fabbbulous! I assumed as much but always worth knowing!

Hi, it’s set in a coastal suburb of Sydney
