Spaceballs (1987) Full Length Movie Reaction

Comments

Love this movie. It's so silly and ridiculous, but it never gets old. So many great scenes. Some of my favorites are the part with John Hurt in the diner and when they crash onto the planet of the apes, gets me every time. Another great pick Tom😊.

Glad to see you watch this, though it's not my favorite Mel Brooks movie. Definitely check out "Blazing Saddles" and "Young Frankenstein", though I usually suggest people watch the original "Frankenstein" and "Bride of Frankenstein" first. I also liked Brooks' "High Anxiety", which is an homage/parody of Hitchcock films; it's also best appreciated if you've seen Hitchcock's most famous movies. I would love to see you react to "Bridge on the River Kwai" and "Lawrence of Arabia." My favorite David Lean film is "Doctor Zhivago," though it admittedly has many shortcomings. To address your mild shock and confusion over the term "Druish Princess", Mel Brooks was known for poking fun at Jewish culture and stereotypes. The term "Jewish American Princess" or "JAP" is used to describe a stereotype of a rich, spoiled Jewish wife or daughter. Some have felt it's a harmless joke of a term, but I think these days it's considered quite offensive. And by the way, the dancing alien in the diner is a reference to a classic Looney Tunes cartoon from 1955 called "One Froggy Evening." It's a cartoon that had been played so much on tv that everyone in the 80s knew it by heart. Here's a clip: youtube.com/watch?v=MsROL4Kf8QY
