Please check out DARK WATER (2002), which was the other major Japanese horror of that period also directed by Hideo Nakata who directed RINGU. Dark Water was the other J-horror that then got remade by Hollywood in a version starring Jennifer Connolly. I'd recommend the original Japanese version. I think it's really intriguing, has some great visuals, chilling moments, and an interesting story.
