Got a story?
Added 2018-09-05 21:55:09 +0000 UTCA few of the episodes you've heard on Darknet Diaries were because fans brought the story to me. These make some of the best stories because fans know what would be a good fit for the show. If you have a personal hacking experience you've been through that could be an interesting episode, please reach out! Or if you come across any interesting articles you think would make a good episode, please post them below. Thanks!

Hey Jack! I can't exactly remember if you already mentioned this in an episode, but maybe there's something interesting to unpack about the Australian healthcare data breach in 2022. The leak contained for example a list of people treated for alcoholism and other illnesses. I found especially amusing that the Australian government told people that "a good citizen would not look at the data" https://www.theguardian.com/world/2022/nov/11/medical-data-hacked-from-10m-australians-begins-to-appear-on-dark-web

2025-01-30 17:30:26 +0000 UTCI just listened to episode 111 and at the end you mentioned the FBI cyber's most wanted. I took a look at the list and something pretty shocking stood out to me as I paged through the 100+ cyber criminals. Throughout the entire list, there's not a SINGLE "Mark Johnson", "Andrew Pierson" or "Dustin Smith". It's almost ENTIRELY made up of foreign nationals with difficult to pronounce names! Why is there such a lack of domestic representation in the list of the US's Most Wanted cyber criminals? I'm not complaining, I'm just saying that I couldn't help but notice a certain "similarity" among the people that make up the entirety of that list and it left me scratching my head as to WHY there's not a SINGLE typical looking white dude (or woman) on the list that looks like they could be from (insert any US state). Is it because domestic cyber criminals are so much easier for the FBI to catch? Or are there just NO really talented criminal hackers in the US that are worthy of making the FBI's list? Id love to hear an episode that addresses this obvious lack of representation on the cyber's most wanted list! Thanks Jack!

2022-04-25 02:12:34 +0000 UTCI got some, 1 regarding my stay at a bank (where I changed policy from my "digitalization expert" seat by trolling the CEO), then one how I caught wannacry on Win7 EOL and one where we had an insider threat at the company. If you want any of them in short, ping me ;-) but I doubt it's interesting enough.

2021-02-23 16:20:00 +0000 UTCI was thinking an episode on the psychiatrie center vastaamo which had a massive breach of patient data that the threat actors released to the public domain and even demanded bitcoin from patients to keep the records private.

2020-12-16 23:01:51 +0000 UTCI wouldn’t mind if you could manage an interview with your fellow Patreon member Jim Browning. As you may already know, Jim does a great job hacking into the networks of scammers to bring them down or the very least interrupt their scams.

2020-10-19 14:40:25 +0000 UTCI think I am asking for too much, but if you had any details on the US ban on Huawey it would be quite interesting, also I haven't heard all the episodes, so I am not sure if you had interviewed him yet but if you could reach Snowden as Joe Rogan did twice it could unveill some interesting stuff. On a side note thanks for the podcast, I am from Europe and I have been recomending it to everyone.

2020-09-27 16:16:31 +0000 UTCIt wouldn't be the longest story, but I could tell you how I found a remote code execution bug in some web image gallery software. Researched the extent to be around 9000 vulnerable systems, contacted the developers who couldn't care less, 'patched' it but never bothered to contact their customers (even charged for the updated version) and gave me the brush off. I had a hard time deciding to publicly disclose or not, and chose against it due to all the still vulnerable systems that (even now) are still around. As a cherry on top one of the websites I found when researching was from defcon...

2020-03-05 15:28:22 +0000 UTCFor the longest time, I've been hearing that the automotice industry is absolutely riddled with corporate espionage and the big manufacturers, i.e. Volvo, Mercedes, VW etc, only ever find out about hacks when their competitors new cars come out. It's not like they flaunt this information, so it could be seriously hard to track any actual information on it, but I figured I'd throw it out there as I'm super curious as to what you may find.

2019-02-19 13:46:27 +0000 UTCHave you considered doing an episode on the Scottish hacker Gary McKinnon? He was accused of in 2002 of "the biggest military computer hack of all time" I'll link to the Wikipedia page about him. Would love to hear a more detailed story about this hack! https://en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/Gary_McKinnon

2019-02-19 13:44:58 +0000 UTCI'd love to hear something on the Wank worm that hit NASA when Assange and his associates hacked NASA IN 1989. There's a great book on it by Suelette Dreyfus and Assange called Underground.

2019-02-12 02:56:20 +0000 UTCI know it sounds boring but what about an epp on SimSwap Fruad or general SS7 Signal hacking ? 2018-09-18 10:54:20 +0000 UTCHow about this story? I know it's huge, but.. The spooky stuff the Russians got up to with the DNC and other hacks. There are a number of excellent sources for some good details. (1) The US DOJ indictments of russian nationals. https://www.justice.gov/file/1080281/download (2) SecurityNow has a fun and lengthy treatment of some of the juicier bits of the indictment; see here: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=VmibZF_aTfU&feature=youtu.be&t=1h26m15s (3) SecurityNow show notes: https://www.grc.com/SN/SN-672-Notes.pdf It was so interesting to me to hear about this because it reveals some of the incredible power that (presumably) the NSA has to reconstruct internet activity after-the-fact, because the piecing together of what the russians did is pretty precise on a blow-by-blow level - and this is just what was okay to release to the public, no doubt there is much more magic going on in secret. (4) This story https://www.volkskrant.nl/wetenschap/dutch-agencies-provide-crucial-intel-about-russia-s-interference-in-us-elections~b4f8111b/ , that was broken by a Dutch reporter, Huib Modderkolk, about how the Dutch intelligence agency (full disclosure: I am Dutch and really proud of this story) hacked the Russian foreign intelligence service and could provide extremely solid attribution to Russian activity in the DNC because of this. I suppose this isn't your typical genre but it fascinates me and there's a rare look on the inside of these machinations due to that dutch reporter putting it together as well as the public DOJ indictment, and perhaps there's more. Big fan of the show, cheers. Ben
