Art Update: Junky's Bizarre Adventure

From the onset, we wanted to expand on Junky's character and we wanted to find a way to incorporate more of him naturally, so we felt him owning a scrap/autoshop was the right move for that reason. In terms of initial concepting, we were pretty inspired by simple autowork shops and it made sense for Junky to have a bit of a hustle fixing up broken down vehicles as he searches for all the oddities hidden among the junk.

For the character of Jolyne, her name was 100% inspired by Jojo part 6, and we wanted to keep closer to that by incorporating the green streak into her hair. We also wanted to diversify the cast of the game a little bit and her design is a reflection of this. We were pretty happy with the end result, and we're looking into including her more in the story in the future as we progress with the game.

Junky's office was intended to be a bit of a surprise by the enigmatic character, and we wanted to show that there's a lot more to him than his initial appearance on Jukarya. The initial item that you grab for Junky was the key that was on his desk, and Junky knows a lot more about Project Hephaestus than he lets on. We're looking forward to expanding on that as game the progresses further.

The drone from Project Hephaestus was definitely a unique addition to the game, and we wanted to show there was a lot more at play than a few scientists trying to figure a solution to humanity's issues. Where is the junk going, and why would the drone be looking for the key pieces the player is after?

For the robot capture itself we wanted to make it a bit silly and fun, and we felt that having a simple box trap felt like a funny way to capture a super advanced robot.

Anyways that's it for today's art update! We're currently hard at work on the new banner for Patreon/Twitter/Itch.io and we'll make sure to have an update on that once it's done. Next art update we'll go into detail on how we go about concepting pinups.
