Girl Genius Comic for Wednesday, October 25, 2023

When I talk to my kid or Mom in the evenings, I like to have something to keep my hands busy. Sometimes I fold laundry, but lately I've been working on getting original art pages listed on the new girlgeniusart.com site. For this I need to take photos, but when I'm using my phone I can't do that, so I thought "I know, I'll go pull out one of the old phones and set it up as a camera."

With four people in the house, it turns out we have a lot of old phones, even though we're not "new phone every year" types. Most of them need to go away, but first I have to do proper teardown on them and wipe them so they don't carry our old info out into the world. It turns out some of them are going to be a bit troublesome since they're so old they don't even want to talk to me, and at least one of them is locked because the kid can't remember the passcode he used in middle school. ARRRRRGH. It's not a big deal, and I did find one that will work as a camera, but I really need to get all those other ones cleaned up and out of here before I'm dealing with 30 year old tech.

Oh, but if I wait long enough, it won't be my problem any more. Hmmm.

I finished streaming the Girl Genius: Adventures in Castle Heterodyne game last Wednesday, so tomorrow Victor is going to teach me to play Terraria for the entertainment of anyone who wants to show up. We spent some time yesterday figuring out how to stream multiplayer. It should be interesting. It's not my usual style of game but I'm always up to learn, and hopefully it will be entertaining.

Ok, here's the page, I'm going to hunt a mammoth. Or possibly a sandwich, which runs slower and isn't extinct. Thanks everyone!

Any gadget-savvy friend could just open up most older phones and pry the flash memory chips out. Apple, unfortunately, makes that hard by gluing everything in place, but other phones are easy.

"Oh, but if I wait long enough, it won't be my problem any more." I have that thought more and more as I approach 70. So no, it's not procrastination, it's strategic planning.
