Love Mermaid - Chapter 14: Breathing Underwater

Chapter 14: Breathing Underwater

“Mommy?”

I heard his voice.

I knew it was him.

It came from outside, not too from the library.

I followed his voice outside…

“Mommy…?”

I had no idea why he was still calling me that way, but I could not only tell that it was Finn, but I could also tell that he was calling for help.

Finn was in danger!

“Finn!”

It was after nightfall, and it was harder to see in the water, but I saw arms waving in the water.

The young boy was having difficulty in the water. With a slight wind in the air, the water was moving a lot, enough to push him around and make swimming much more complicated. Why was he in the water so late in the evening?

“Help!”

He was drowning!

Then, things became even worse as I noticed something else moving in the ocean with him…

I saw a shark fin!

Finn was not only drowning, but he was pursued by a shark!

There was no time to waste.

If there was anyone that could help him, that was me for sure.

Before it was too late, I leaped into the ocean!

Since everything was happening so fast, I saw everything that was going on, image by image—all of it was unfolding before my eyes in perfect slow motion from the moment during which I jumped into the water and the moment when I penetrated into it.

A millisecond before fully diving into the water, I changed into my true form on purpose because I needed to.

My two legs transformed into my teal mermaid tail.

I’m coming for you, Finn…

Shining in the darkness, I swam in the ocean and miraculously managed to place myself between the young boy and the marine animal that was coming to get him.

My eyes shun bright in the dark water as I sped up and intervened before it was too late.

I stared straight at the mean-looking shark with my shining eyes.

I didn’t even have to say anything.

The shark stopped swimming toward Finn and me as soon as I exchanged eye contact with it.

It understood.

It left Finn alone.

The dangerous threat taken care of, I turned back to Finn, who was still drowning.

There wasn’t much time to save him, but I knew I could do it. Still underwater, I swam as close as possible toward him. Held his pretty face with both hands and brought my lips closer to his.

I kissed him.

This kiss would hopefully save him.

I was giving him my air.

With my oxygen, I was going to be making it possible for him to breathe underwater. Similar to how I was doing it in the first place.

The kiss lasted for a long time, during which the young boy was not breathing the way I was hoping or expecting…

At first, it didn’t work, however, at some point, I did insert my tongue in his mouth, and it seemed like this was what finally woke him up right before it was too late…

Finn finally opened his eyes!

He was still alive!

And he was breathing underwater with me!

I thought I had lost him, but he was still here with me.

I had just enough to save him.

This was a true miracle that I heard his voice and that I was able to get to him in time before it was too late…

***

Splash!

I brought him back to the shore.

Back to the sandy beach.

Even though, I was able to provide him with oxygen, Finn was still unconscious.

He previously and momentarily regained consciousness while underwater as I was kissing him, but this did not last too long. With his eyes shut, I left him on the beach.

I gave him some space.

Finn was now breathing just fine, so there was no reason for me to stick around. To be honest, I thought that the boy would be sleeping for a couple more minutes, giving me enough time to leave the scene, but to my surprise, this was not the case at all—because before I was able to turn my back to him, Finn suddenly re-opened his eyes.

Slowly, but surely…

“Mommy…” his voice was not as clear as it usually was before, but I was still ultimately able to make out the word he said to me…

That one word…

Despite everything, he still called me like that.

Despite everything…

“It’s Tori,” attempting to set new boundaries for our relationship, I tried explaining to him that my name was not mommy, but Tori. Something I had completely failed to install between us right off the gates.

“Tori?”

“Yes, Tori.”

“Tori mommy…” Finn combined the two words as he slipped away… His eyes shut again. His vision probably even became quite foggy before closing his eyes, even because he was so exhausted from this major incident in the ocean with the shark.

Deep down, I knew that this shark didn’t mean to hurt him, really.

It was more curious by him than anything else.

The real danger here was that this young boy nearly drown. This was quite surprising for a lighthouse keeper who also likes to fish as a hobby.

Strange…

I was about to go and leave Finn alone before he suddenly woke up again.

His vision was still perhaps probably foggy, but with both eyes open, he saw me in a different light.

This wasn’t just ‘Tori mommy’ that he saw, but I would assume that he also witnessed a guardian. This was the feeling that I was getting from the look he gave me. I felt like he was observing me and thinking of me as some kind of divine presence.

I didn’t like that.

I was not comfortable with that.

Not one bit.

He could also see me without any regular clothes on.

In order to rescue him from his drowning, I stripped all of my human clothes, revealing my mermaid bikini top that I wore underneath my shirt. My mermaid bikini top consisted of two seashells, covering and holding both of my breasts. Then, a pink-purple string of pearls held and linked both seashells.

This was a mermaid piece of clothing Finn had never seen before.

“Be more careful next time, Finn…” I said and nodded to him before leaving him alone.
