All the children were finally tucked up in their tents, exhausted after a long day of hiking and forest activities. Ben and you, the counselors in charge, were sitting by the campfire, enjoying the calm that was gradually settling in. The glow of the flames danced on your faces, revealing the fatigue accumulated over the course of the day.
“What a day,” Ben breathed as he stretched, a tired smile on his face. “I didn't think we were going to make it.”
You nodded silently, your eyes fixed on the red embers crackling in front of you. “Yeah, it was intense,” you replied, rubbing the back of your neck. “But we did it.”
After hours spent supervising the scouts, making sure they followed instructions and solving the little problems that are inevitable in the great outdoors, you and Ben had only one desire: to relax. This was finally your moment, when you could let off steam, enjoy the silence of the forest, and forget for a moment the responsibilities weighing on your shoulders.
