Sorry. A bit of a rant coming…. While Kpop idols chose to work in the spotlight, it should not mean they have to constantly live under a microscope. Every action & detail meticulously analyzed and judged. IMO I believe this is the fault of the entertainment companies and how they market the idols. Giving the fans the idea the idols “are theirs” is downright odd and bit sick. No one should be led to believe they own or can control another. What’s confusing for me is while in Korea the couple culture is so strong and KDramas constantly promote love & marriage, yet you frequently hear when idols find love or companionship, or do anything the fans believe to be out of their control…the fans become infuriated. Then stand back because here comes the boycotting, dismissal demands, and hate. Again fans believing a person is theirs to control. All this from fans who say they love those idols. Hypocrites. There should be a drastic change. While Idols should be expected to carry themselves with dignity & decorum because of their influence, they should be allowed to live and love like anyone else. Many great performers/actors/singers are in relationships, most are mothers and fathers. This doesn’t make them any less desirable & attractive. It doesn’t lessen their artistic value. Idols need to be marketed and thought of differently. Give them a chance to live a little more human, a bit more open and free. It all starts with fans asking themselves “If I was famous would I want my fans to treat me this way?” The answer would be a big fat NOPE.
