Does South Korea lack the intelligence to identify the actual reasons for their extremely low fertility rates? From my point of view, the biggest challenges are work-life balance, the financial burdens of child-rearing, and the lack of an affordable housing scheme. Koreans are an extremely workaholic society, and this is obvious even to a tourist. How are couples expected to have children if both parents are working 12 - 15 hours a day just because it's the norm, and if you leave early, then you are harshly criticized? Work-life balance is not even a thing in South Korean society. Encouraging a better work-life balance by reducing working hours, promoting family-friendly workplace practices, and offering support for working parents can make it easier for couples to balance work and family responsibilities. Children can't be raised for free; they come with heavy costs, and I don't see the Korean Government ever discussing any sort of financial aid to support parents while raising their kids. Implementing supportive policies such as parental leave, flexible work arrangements, affordable childcare, and tax incentives can help ease the burden of raising children and encourage couples to have more children. Providing financial benefits, such as cash bonuses, tax breaks, or subsidies for child-related expenses, can help alleviate the financial costs associated with raising children. Affordable housing: Ensuring the availability of affordable housing, particularly larger homes suitable for families, can make it more feasible for couples to start or expand their families. There are many other schemes the government can adopt to improve the birth rate; however, these are the most painful points for any couple intending to start a family in South Korea.
