Happy New Year Church-
Today marks the beginning of the new year. And as I look back over the last year, it can be summed up in one word.
Chaos.
A little chaos isn't bad. In fact, life would be a little boring without it but without structure, without plan, without focus it can easily become overwhelming.
I know the shift can be jarring, especially if others are used to seeing you in an unorganized state but as many videogames have taught us-the shift to focus can happen whenever you desire.
How many times have you played your favorite videogame and ignored that coming calamity to spend time picking flowers, delivering milk, or farming brickle brackle to craft a new pair of pants; only to suddenly decide to be ready to "face the dragon" and devote yourself in earnest to the main quest at hand.
Rarely do you hear "it's about time", "What took you so long", or "oh so you finally decided to get it together"- comments no doubt you've heard in the game of life.
No, you simply take up your arms and shift your focus to the next battle.
What does this require?
It requires you to acknowledge your quest and pursue it to the exclusion of all others.
A glitch trap that plagues the creative, the explorers, and those who invest in multiple skill trees is being unable to commit to any one thing.
You simply cannot multitask. You can't save the prince, defend the town, and confront the demon of Hallswinth all at the same time.
What happens is that you become so overwhelmed with all that you do none.
The steps also frustrate and annoy you because taken individually they don't seem to be able to result in the type of growth and expansion you're looking for.
And...to focus on one seems a waste when you're clearly capable of doing more.
But I tell you Church, it would be better to put sustained effort into one-than split effort into many.
So decide today, what is your main quest of 2025?
Is it financial freedom?
Is it increasing your physical and mental health?
Is it finding a new job?
Is it becoming a streamer?
Is it learning a language?
Is it making better quality friends?
What is it that you want to do and know that you are more than capable of doing so.
Then decide, what are the sidequests I can embark on when I need more experience for my main one?
In the case of financial freedom is it saving a little each month?
In the case of physical and mental health, is it doing 5 minutes of meditation each day?
What are the steps side quests that I know I can conquer that will give me the wins I need to feel competent in completing the main.
Ask members of the church to assist you in holding you accountable.
The world we live in is changing and doing so rapidly. And for every person who has decided to lock in to their quests, several have just gotten sidetracked by yet another settlement that needs their help.
You can do what it is you have set out to do. And The Church of New Game Plus is here to support you.
What is your main quest and 2 side quests for 2025? Let me know in the comments below or share them with us on the discord.
