Also, it makes what Yukio from "The Wolverine" said come true. "I see you on your back, there's blood everywhere. You're holding your own heart in your hand" In a metaphorical way, Laura was Logan's "heart" that he held in his hand.

In the very beginning of the movie when Charles says, "When we took you in, I gave you a family" and Logan's response "They're gone now" No matter where Logan ended up, he always has tragedy follow him. What a masterpiece of a movie.
