Hey Laowinners!
I was asked a quite a few times, do I read, what do I read, or what books might inspire me to make videos etc.
To answer that succinctly, I read A LOT, specifically a ton of audiobooks.
I grew up reading a lot of fantasy, but as the time went on, and I became interested in language etc, I started reading books on geopolitics, different countries, and specifically, first hand accounts of people in those countries.
Recently I have been reading a ton about North Korea, and I have gone through 5 North Korea related books in the past year, many of which helped me to understand the country and culture I got so close to on Conquering Northern China. One of the most touching was "Nothing To Envy" by Barbara Demick, as it told the stories of people outside of the capital of Pyongyang. However, this book was from 2009.
Perhaps the most interesting was "Ask A North Korean" by Daniel Tudor, which I can highly recommend. This is a more recent book that interviews and asks normal questions to North Koreans like, "do North Koreans use tampons?", and "what jokes do North Koreans tell?"
I thought it was super fascinating, and really painted a more realistic picture of the people in North Korea.
Amazon - Audible just accepted me into their affiliate program (so I can get kickbacks from sign ups etc.) and I accepted the offer as I really love and use Audible a lot. But, If you use the link below you get 30 days totally free, and 1 free audiobook download, so I figured I'd let you guys know, as I really loved this book, and it is available there.
