What Type of People Join the Army in China?

Vivi just posted a video about what types of people join the military in China.
In a scene we couldn't talk about, she mentioned friends that are rich because of their military connections.
This is most definitely the case. There are people we heard about that have 10 car garages full of super cars, mansions in multiple countries, and people that own corporations. It is insane the kind of wealth that the PLA commands.
It's actually kind of terrifying due to the real disconnect that the local government has with these generals. I wouldn't dare delve into getting to know these people any deeper, but from what I have seen, it is pretty insane.

2018-06-09 17:43:15 +0000 UTCThis is of genuine interest to me - I was over 30 years in the NZ Naval Reserves, and when I retired from service I was the Commanding Officer of one of the reserve force bases. I remember the first time I visited China with my future wife, back in 2006, her parents were amazed that we caught a taxi from home to the airport. They absolutely expected that I would have a chauffeured car. Both her parents had been officers & doctors in the PLA, and I think the fact that I was an officer helped with their acceptance of me as a future son in law. Certainly her father made a big deal of my military service. Also, everyone I've met who has served in the PLA is very proud of having done so.

There can be pride in this kind of service, and if you are competent you can be trained on a career track and receive promotions and leadership positions. Military people can retire after 20 years and receive 50% retirement pay and still go on to a second career having management skills. It can be a rewarding choice if you are unsure what you want to do in life.
