Hey Laowinners!
It's been super hard to get out content with us being halfway through shooting Conquering Northern China. We have officially left the area that borders North Korea, and let me tell you, it has been hectic to say the least. There was a very uneasy feeling in the air, but the whole border region was absolutely fascinating.
I learned that the ethnic Korean Chinese people in the region speak Korean as their first language and are very protective of their culture. They also hold closer ties with and identify as North Koreans rather than a Chinese minority.
The food, people, the risk and rewards all paid off and I can safely say that the Yanbian region of Jilin province is one of the most interesting places I've ever been to.
By the way, in the picture, North Korea is just meters behind our helmets.
