I had an awesome time in Guangzhou with my buddy and producer of me and Winstons TV show, Conquering Southern China.
It was great to catch up, and I ended up doing a quick promo for it at an Idea Exchange.
Guangzhou is weird. There are (I believe) more foreigners there than any other city. There are entire sections of the city devoted to Africans, middle eastern people etc.
We ended up in the middle eastern district because Rik was filming a documentary about the Silk Road.
We ran into a lot of people that looked like they had no other reason to be there except things were not going well back home. 2 boys, probably 16 or 17, were sat on a fence next to a police car smoking cigarettes. Curiosity got the best of me, and I asked them what they were doing in China. They said that they lost everything in Palestine. Their neighborhood was (re-claimed?) I couldn't follow their English easily, but it was interesting to see China as a go to refugee spot for people in countries of turmoil.
That night we went to a Islamic club, and while people were smoking Hookah, we also saw drinks being passed around. Maybe Muslims abroad get a get out of Haram free card.
Either way, a good time, but I took the train home and an old auntie let her grandson throw dirty tissues at me, the man across from me coughed in my face a few times, and the guy next to me kept trying to sleep on my shoulder.
AND THATTTTTTT
Brings me to here.
I got the flu.
Not the "oi mate, got a bit of a sniffle. Seems I've been bitten with a bit of the flu."
No.
The real flu.
First time in my life.
So that was nearly a week of vomiting, diarrhea (haha did you know it's called "spicy stomach" in Chinese?)aches and pains, and 0 energy.
Thank the lord I didn't pass it on to my daughter.
Peaks and troughs guys.
