Hey guys, I've been busy cooking up a new game mode. I thought the 'zones' type play style can be done a lot better so I've completely done away with it and instead moved to a dynamic 'frontline' style of game!
Your Objective:
Push the opposing force back until they do not control any more runways. As frontlines move, ownership of runways will change. Frontlines are defined by the units on the ground (refer to the attached images).
How it works:
Frontlines is coded to build units firstly along the frontline, it then changes to a frontline management mode to maintain the frontline.
As units are destroyed, reinforcements are built but behind the frontline,
if enough units are destroyed over time, the frontline will shift back. As the frontline is moved back, the winning sides frontline will move forward as a result of the frontline manager.
Runways will build supply convoys and helicopters which will build units in the frontline to push the frontline forward. Players can also get involved and also deploy units at the frontline to assist.
Runways will also build AI to complete CAS, CAP and SEAD missions.
Runway control is dependent on where the Frontline is and will change as the frontline moves.
The benefits:
A realistic battle arena where opposing forces have a dynamic frontline,
ground forces will engage each other as they move closer to opposing forces, resulting in better ground battles thanks to the reactive armies code,
a more condensed battle arena so shorter flights and direct flights to the frontline,
reduced number of active units as we only need to keep the frontline populated (down from 800~ to about 400,
reduced unit counts means better performance for everyone so you'll be glad to get your frames back,
the ability to switch to a PVPVE mission style on occasion in future (I first need to see how PVE goes),
everything is code generated, so the mission file is only a few kilobytes (43Kbs at the moment), and means that building this mission for each map is very quick,
AI is built to conduct SEAD, CAP, CAS, logistics,
AI logistics will reinforce frontlines and help drive forward,
players can also deliver ground forces to the frontlines using CTLD and Logistics, and help move the frontline forward,
sign up for CAS, DEAD, SEAD, CAP missions via 'Dial code' like always and join missions with wing mates to complete these missions,
and finally, yes everything is going to be made persistent, even the CTLD and logistic vehicles players deploy.
What's next?
Testing of this mission, so after we finish Persian Gulf I'd like to run this mission, which I might actually just run on Afghanistan anyways. It's simple to switch over anyways.
I'd done away with "supplies" and want to focus on actual units for now and plan to do something with static buildings, just they are a bit bugged right now so haven't got around to it yet.
Thanks,
Chazz
