A Picture's Worth 1000 Words

Hello Patrons,

This week we've got a video on Peter Dutton and Gina Rinehart's obsessive emulation of Donald Trump and Elon Musk. We're mainly focusing on their desire to bring a Musk-style DOGE to Australia.

Let's take a look at how that would threaten the public service and what damage it would realistically do to the country. This video will be out later today, we hope you enjoy this early look.

Thank you for your continued support,

The FJ Crew.

3:41 says Jacinta Price has had to repay improperly claimed expenses 13 times "totalling almost $11,000". While the original DOGE guy, Elon Musk, apparently gets $8m per day from the US government and hasn't repaid ANY back. Jacinta Price could easily "save" what she's been costing the government and she could even cut indigenous funding costs since she is one. Though you did just say that it just "seems a little.... I don't really care who runs it" so you're not placing a lot of importance of the point about Jacinta Price anyway. Thanks.

Haha, love how you take swings at us Kiwis 😁

I really like this Ozzie Greek presenter on here but he hates kiwi's, am I being FinDomed?!?

Problem with the big four consultants is they have made the public service rely on contractors to the jobs. It will take years of rebuilding to make it better.

Remember the US currently has a USD36Tn deficit with annual interest on the db now exceeding their Defence budget - there is plenty of low-hanging fruit to cut in their annual USD2Tn deficit in the effort to get their spending under control. Dutton's doge, to date, hasn't actually identified any waste/fraud to cut other than 'public servants' - and the PS increase under Labor was to replace long term Tier 1 "Above The Line" ATL consultants, usually at 2 or 3 times the cost of an equivalent PS. ATL can be translated to 'should really be PS but headcount'. The fact that US DOGE found uncategorised Treasury transfers out is astounding from an Australian perspective. Our Australian National Audit Office provides a check-and-balance & hell descends on anyone who fails an ANAO audit here. Thank you for not making this another hit piece on Musk! Disclaimer - I drive a Tesla and like it a lot, saves heaps on petrol and maintenance costs.

Some people are just jealous that others are getting it easier than they are.

What was suggested is not a useless, vestigial department created for the vanity of sycophantic wankers, it's meaningful reform to the existing institutions. What you're suggesting with a DOGE is a hostile external internal affairs unit who foment resentment within the government and erode institutions they don't intimately understand. You don't want a DOGE. You want increased accountability and efficiency. You don't get either of those with a DOGE style organisation that fundamentally doesn't understand the cuts it's making.

Lapsing into a coma and running off the road has already proved too easy, so I placed one eye on the road, one in Rangoon, and the other on a box of Darrell Lea chocolates that I was quietly quaffing at the Rangoon Bowling Club, having just filled up with Total at Brunswick Heads.

Scary

We don't really need another government department, but current departments have never really listened to previous internal reform attempts. They need a strong kick in the ass to change their ways. A doge or doge based system looks like it might be the way to go.

Dan Goodwin

America already had Doge equivalent departments, the Musk strategy is to cut as much as possible as fast as possible, and only add back the things people cry most about (or deport the people who cry). Great for cutthroat business, disasterous for what is supposed to be a people before profit government.

Nicekiwi

Wait, you just said we don't need a doge, but proceeded to provide a doge anyway. I'm looking around looking for anyway disagreeing, but there isn't any.

Dan Goodwin

You paid money to access this thread and post this.

Blake Walden

We don't need a doge. Better thinkers have already solved this problem What we need is: -Accountability in public service. This comes from quarterly performance reviews that enable us to address employee deficiencies with retraining. -Increased wages and benefits. We need the public service to be competitive and attractive in comparison to the private sector. -More flexible working arrangements to engage those capable workers like mothers and the disabled who have access issues that either reduce productivity or decrease employee comfort and satisfaction. -Trim the contractor fat and include those jobs in the public service. Encourage more school leavers into decent public sector jobs instead of forcing them to get weaksauce degrees to get that 55k p/y job. Literally integrate the high school education into the public service pipeline so any school leavers can go directly into a GOOD first job to set them up for success and show them the merits of public service rather than having them be a net drain claiming student benefits for arts degrees they'll never use and never pay back. (Like mine!) -Fire public servants who aren't performing and promote up. Show people there are expectations and benefits. Give people scope in their roles to perform and reduce restrictions on individual workers to help them get results.

The hair on the back of my cat fell out. It was Harry Belefonte. I knew cats can't stand reggae: it confuses them. They mince around looking all Egyptian, trying to walk sideways, but not really getting anywhere. I killed the radio and put the cat out.

Ly Tong

Some services, it needs to be done. But some shouldn't be touched. Not just government though, there's plenty of NGOs that need the same treatment.

Dan Goodwin

They'll gut the service and leave the entrails on the floor, and you know that.

Blake Walden

I've worked in various government roles for nearly 20 years. DOGE is needed. But not quite the way America is rolling it out. If they roll doge out on a partisan spin (which is what I suspect will happen) nothing will change and shit tonnes of tax payer money will continue to be wasted. There is a chance for a genuine win here, but the likely sad outcome will be that Aussie politics use the word DOGE as a marketing slogan and do 2/10ths of fuck all with it.
