Chapter Keira

Pain and rage, two old friends I've known for far too long have come again to torment me. For a long time now, I thought I knew everything they could throw at me but this, this was on a whole nother level.

"A-A-Alpha Keira, w-we're here."

The frightened voice in front of me, brought me out of my thoughts. Looking around I realize I was seating in the back seat of a car, the voice that called out to me was the driver, a wolf from Demetri's pack that I had allowed to join my own. We had just returned from the funeral which had been excruciating to get through since every fiber of my being wanted nothing but to kill and destroy at the moment. We were now parked in front of my current pack house, without acknowledging the driver, I quickly open the door and step out.

A few of my wolves were out front tending to different things; some were training, some were doing some basic upkeep for the front lawn, and others were working on their cars. As I make my way to the house no one says a word, some even hold their breath as I walk by. They were petrified and they were right o be, I could feel my control was a hair's breadth away from snapping and killing everything in sight. As I enter the house and make my way to my room everyone stops in their tracks, look down, and shiver in fear. That's when I realize some of my aura has been leaking out, which was something I usually never lose control of, but right now I didn't care. I didn't care about anything, not even the pain and rage that seemed to be eating away at me. The only thing I cared about right now was him.

Opening the door to my room, I see Matty standing guard over Caden as he sleeps in our bed, seeing me Matty quickly backs away from Caden to give me space.

"Any change?" I ask.

"No Alpha, but the doctor said he is doing well and should wake up anytime now." Matty replies.

"Good, you can leave now. Also, his parents would like an update, so call them and let them know." I ordered.

"Yes, Alpha."

I carefully sit by Caden's side and begin gently combing my fingers through his hair, my whole-body aching for his touch. Staring down at his handsome face makes all the pain and rage that was eating away at me just moments ago melt away. If I could, I would have never left his side in the first place, but it would have been a disservice to the wolf that died during the mercenary attack if I hadn't gone. But who am I kidding that's never stopped me before, the only reason I went this time is because that wolf knew my mate. And knowing he'll be sad to hear he missed the funeral; I'm hoping hearing I went for him will lessen the blow.

I look down at the bandages wrapped around his stomach covering the stab wound and my anger begins to rise. Death is coming for the bitch that did this and it's coming soon, the world should be grateful my mate survived because if he hadn't nothing would have stopped me from burning it to the ground.

"Argh" Caden groans.

I quickly cut off my anger not wanting him to sense it and worry. But this was also a good thing, if he's conscious enough to sense our connection then...

I quickly stop thinking about it; closing my eyes I begin reaching out to Caden through our bond.
