BEHIND THE SCENES #14 - [S1E8.44]: A New Plan

whew!!! finally done with this lil' arc!!! i had a lot of fun bringing these two back >:3c but im also mad excited to be back to penny and eve, ahaha--i missed writing them!! >w>'''

so, this one was out a LITTLE late.... like... a whole day... but, u know what, i really like how it came out, and my motto is always that id rather it be good than fast, SO we keep on marchin on!!!

B) there's a lot to talk about here, but the first thing i wanted to get into is how rem really is SUCH a fuckin awkward mess when she has to be genuine, lmfao. writing her trying to console adrian was SO funny, like she CAN'T bring herself to be 100 percent real with him, no matter how hard she tries. the little voice in her head that tells her shes being cringe starts yelling at her when she so much as dips a toe into genuine emotions... you can imagine her internally just like.  'GOD. I'M BEING SO CRINGE RIGHT NOW. AUGHHHHH.' while trying to pat his head and shit. these two bring me endless joy DNDFNG

luckily for her though, adrian is easily consoled; as angry as he gets all the time, his outbursts just as easily go the other way lol

another thing i was thinking about while writing this chapter was what a friendship between our two resident dog-people would look like... i feel like penny's unconditional sweetness would almost confuse adrian at this point--like, he's spent so long with rem who can't go 5 minutes without messing with him that he can't fathom Not doing that constantly (he loves it, though!)

honestly, i can't wait for them to meet properly--it kinda reminds me of (to put it in homestuck terms) jade and karkat, which was always one of my favorite relationships in that story... it'd probably be a bit more wholesome though, since any time penny gets involved it gets instantly 25 times more wholesome and cute. her effect!!!!! B)

god i really love writing this story DNDFNGJ... i know i say it a lot, but being able to do this for like. REAL LIFE MONEY is so crazy to me still. thank u guys for enjoying my goofy little characters enough to follow along like this :') it means so much to me!! <3<3<3

gosh, so there's a lot to talk about artwise on this one too!! probably cause its so long... i dont wanna be here ALL night though, so, lets get into it!!

first things first, i wanted to mention that goofy fuckin panel of adrian crying like halfway through ENJFGNJHHJF--the one i made the icon for this episode on webtoons!!

i've always been a big fan of weird and stupid expressions in stories, especially when they come out of nowhere and hit you like a fuckin freight train--i wish i could add more of them, but often i can't think of ones i find funny enough to actually warrant drawing... im constantly chasing the high of drawing those avas from when penny was trying to justify thinking she was a vampire. i had an idea here though, so i thought it would be another fun (albiet, small) parallel to draw between adrian and ava--anything i can do to tie them together, i'ma do!! B)

god, while i was drawing this update i kept scrolling down and seeing this picture and it was KILLING me, it was like a jumpscare but for laughing HDNFDD

another thing that i did with this update was that i started doing the lines for the backgrounds more loosely, so i could make them faster!! as well as playing with some more complex perspectives... i realised that it doesn't really matter if they're SUPER well defined since a lot of the details gets covered up anyways, and most of the look comes from the colors!! i honestly love doing backgrounds, so having time to do more of them is just a treat for me!! >:]c

i really like how the more perspective-y one came out in this update too!! the other one is just like, couch cushions basically, lol, but im really proud of the other one!! >:3c i'll show it below in full, as well as WIP shots of it, for comparison B)

aaand the last thing i wanted to talk about, was the scene setting panel at the end!! the one of the school at night, i mean, hehe. there isn't a TON to say about it, just a color-shift of a panel that i've used before, with a little editing to give it a night-time glowy look--but i thought it would be interesting to show all three variations of it side by side!! that kinda stuff is always super cool to me, so hopefully it is to you too, hehe!! :D
