BEHIND THE SCENES #1 - [S1E8.35]: Spooky Alley Adventure

wow that title is a mouthful DSNDFNH--what's up tho!! this is a day late but, welcome to the first real behind the scenes post!! :D

this is gonna be the format for all future behind the scenes posts--there should be one for each update and omake!! they'll definitely vary in length based on how much i have to say about the update though, ehehe

so, this one came after about a week of nothing, which i feel pretty bad about >w>'' -- i felt really icky this week, but i do feel a bit better now, so we're back on it!!

on the bright side though, i really do like how this one came out!! especially the backgrounds--i think they're really pretty!! a while ago i actually started drawing the backgrounds separately from the characters, cause it lets me reuse them in multiple panels, and also takes less work (less time spent coloring around characters mostly)

here's a look at the full backgrounds, without any characters covering 'em up!!

each one took me about 45 minutes to an hour to draw i think? pretty happy with the result!! makes me excited for when we get to the more aesthetically interesting areas of the story... >:3c

as for the characters, some interesting things are going on with the colors!! usually, the shadows are one particular shade of dark orange--but when the scenes are dark, i swap it over to a different color, and put an overlay over everything so the colors match better! originally, i had planned to have an entirely different set of colors for each character in dark scenes, but as soon as i tried that i realised it was like. Way too much work lmao.

here's the two colors i use for shadows B) both on a multiply layer of about 41% opacity!!

also, this is a great time to mention how Epic layer effects are--i used to be in the boat of 'that's cheating!!' when i first started drawing digitally, but now i can't finish a drawing without them--its literally so helpful to just be able to like... slap a color on something and BOOM its dark... i love it... friendship ended with understanding color theory now Layer Effects are my best friend...

okay, i think thats all for this one--hope you enjoyed it!! i'll post one for the omake tomorrow!! B)
