The Twisted Case of Carly Gregg

Comments

So am I.

Vann Myrum

Yeah, nah. She murdered her own mother. I mean, different strokes for different folks but this psycho actually used her murdered mother's phone to lure another victim to the scene. You do your morals and allow other countries the same.

Vann Myrum

Okay, I cannot claim any knowledge of US law beyond endless 'Law & Order' et al re-runs, but how on earth was a fourteen year old child tried as an adult???? Can she legally vote? Work? Pay taxes? Drive a car? Drink alcohol? Give blood? Gamble? Make it make sense. This was a horrendous crime and from her own video footage plus over-dramatic teenage diary, it looks at least somewhat pre-meditated and in full control of her capacities, but she was fourteen, she cannot be legally classed in terms of a criminal trial as an adult. Surely? Pretty sure the absolute sacks of shit that murdered Ana Kriegel and Brianna Ghey were tried in Ireland and the UK as underage minors, so while they won't be out of prison any time soon, thank feck, their sentences will be looked at in 15 or 20 years because they too were children. Albeit psychopathic children.

Thanks, Mike!

Heinous crime and Carly deserves jail time; however, I have to agree with those who think parole should be available to her. I have children close to this age and they're overreactive and naive. She shouldn't spend her entire life in prison for this. Also, if this is what a "gun friendly" household looks like, I'm glad I live in another part of the world.

Thank you, Mike! Great as always! And look - red hearts are back!

Dace Kei

Twisted how the reason for the gun was the fear of the ex-husband

I see the issue, will fix!

Not a fan of life sentences for minors but man, in a situation where there was no abuse, 14 year old shoots her loving mother in the face for absolutely no reason, I have a hard time objecting. They offered her 40 years, she turned it down. There's an argument to be made that her brain wasn't fully developed, but then the counter would be, if this is what she is capable of now, what could she be capable of once she's finished? Yeesh. Just a horrible story all the way through. Don't keep guns around kids. Or adults. Maybe let's just not have everybody with a gun. You know who never shot anybody? A person who didn't have a gun.

Thanks, Mike, for posting right when I was going to take a lunch break (here is mid-afternoon, but I work from home, so, lunch is whenever I get hungry lol)! I have to say: Carly got a very stupid defense lawyer, if it that's who advised her not to take the plea deal! For me, it's very clear that, if she was going to be tried as an adult, the sentence would be life imprisonment (killing her own mother, for Pete's sake!). What I didn't expect was it being without possibility of parole. If anything because the person she is now isn't the person she'll be in adulthood. If there's a case where one can really expect the criminal to redeem herself, it's when said criminal is only a child - and now her formative years will be tainted by the environment in which she'll grow up and by the fact that she won't have any expectations in life. I'm so happy that in my country we don't have life imprisonment - the maximum penalty is 25 years, because we believe prison is to correct, not only punish. Love ya! P.S. - Another stupidity of the defense is the way they told her to dress. They wanted, of course, to present her like a naive, sweet little girl, but I bet when the jury saw the footage, and maybe pictures of her, she came across as deceptive.

Wow that was/is dark.. think she deserves parole at some point tho. Thanks Mike

Rebecca Dare

I feel like she is a sociopath

Well done Mike! I have no doubt that Carly has mental health problems that were exacerbated by her developmental stage in life. I think she should be given the chance of parole when she is in her mid 20's, the theoretical age of full brain development. Her egregious crime calls for trial as an adult, but she is not close to being emotionally mature. A sad and scary case.

Thank you Big Mike
