hooolllyyyy shit if you say something ***so*** morally bereft that you make a convention full of landlords groan in discomfort, god should smite you on the spot. repossessing pets jfc

I appreciate the response, thank you. Yeah, it sounds like the author and administration did not handle things well. This is your brain on ~cancel culture~ lol

Ceruleania

Sincere apologies for the flippancy (this is Tarence). It was a bad article and discussing it probably didn't advance our understanding of any of this stuff, but for what it's worth I think the whole thing was handled inappropriately by the administration and the person whose nudes were nonconsensually shared was in the end not able to see any justice, which is another thing I think the article completely glossed over. Usually I try not to respond to comments but I've felt weird about this ep ever since we recorded it, probably should have just left it on the cutting room floor but we were in pinch so we had to put something out. Again--apologies!

Matthew, Aaron's point was that almost everyone burned at the stake in the colonies / US over the centuries were black. Yet if you mention "burning at the stake", people will generally think of white people convicted of witchcraft. My guess is that he read this WaPo article a few months ago and accurately retained the main idea but mixed up the details a little bit, as one does in conversation. https://www.washingtonpost.com/opinions/2022/02/25/black-women-history-burned-at-stake/ When I first read the article, I initially misinterpreted one of the lines to mean that most women executed for witchcraft were black. My surprise led me to dig around in the data mentioned in the article. Very grim and fascinating. https://files.deathpenaltyinfo.org/legacy/documents/ESPYyear.pdf

Can we get a woman back on this podcast? The flippancy with which the non consensual sharing of nudes was discussed just... wasn't it, especially on Tarence's end. Anyone who's had stuff like that happen knows its not just "dumb drama 🤪". It probably isn't intentional and maybe I'm missing context from the article bc I refuse to read it lmao, but recently the way topics like this have been approached has made me wonder why I'm paying for a subscription to my otherwise favorite podcast.

Ceruleania

Not sure whether I should take comfort in that or be concerned haha

The regression of libs back to childhood fantasy was spot on. It seems they are always looking for a teacher to tell on you when they are aggrieved as well. They have some sort of weird fetishism with authority and the Law that is probably worse than even the conservatives.

Tom, I just want you to know that I caught that Janis Joplin “nothin’ left to lose” joke.

I ate paint chips as a toddler and now have ADHD. Solidarity Aaron.

Never have children. Any of you.

Sir, this is a podcast.

Just sent you guys a message about this episode. No one was every burned at the stake for witchcraft in Colonial America. In Europe, yes. In America for other crimes, also yes; but not for witchcraft. And none of the people who died in Salem were people of color, though one such woman of color was accused and pardoned.

The 'retired' mafiosi I knew are all in the restaurant biz 🤌 . Sample size of three, good enough for me.

Hope Tanya is okay guys. Solidarity with her!

I'm a psychiatry resident. If it makes you guys feel better, you're self-aware of your anxieties but man, every now and then you'll mention a recent fear or intrusive though I haven't even heard my patients mention :)

Saved from the cutting room floor 🙌
