interesting, I'm from bougie ass asheville and people say ya'll all the time

Ryan Comer

I'm from Mississippi/Virginia/South Carolina but now I live in Oregon. I am 51 and I can't stop saying "y'all." It is the plural of you. What is amazing is how widespread it's become. Living in CA in 1998, people made fun of me for saying "y'all." A teenage therapy client of mine was punished by his parents for saying it because they associated it with African-American culture. I moved to Oregon in 2015 to escape Republican rule and I hear everyone saying y'all. I've noticed all the trillbillies say "I'll not" where I'd say "I won't" and I wonder if that's an Appalachian thing. FWIW I got bullied for my accent as a child so I eliminated it by practicing my newscaster imitation. And I miss it, people are usually surprised to hear I'm Southern. But here in rural Oregon, everyone says y'all. Can't stop.

Solidarity from Maine. Been listening to you guys since the beginning and I love the work you do. You're one of two patreons I have gotten rid of and never will

If you're talking about cultural appropriation, it was also adopted by white guys who think they're "down with the brothers" because they listen to rap. I'm from Tennessee and I live in North Carolina, and most people say "you all," not y'all.

I would love for you guys/you all/y'all to dig deeper into the whole y'all convo (and not just for the linguist nerd in me). In Portland it's become hip for young woke types to use y'all cuz the more common 'you guys' is gendered and therefore = patriarchy. I can see their point but hearing some white dude with a coastal accent use y'all tends to make me cringe at best, and at worst it's performative class-play from some college educated libs using a word that is completely culturally foreign to them. What y'all think?

No such thing am I right 🤣

aaron's laugh is A++++ and very welcome in the trillbillies soundscape imo. COME BACK TANYAAAAAAA

You guys would get a lot of downvotes on the r/politics subreddit with this type of blasphemous talk

Please provide links or references to your local socialist groups, or to the "real authentic" local conservatives who you think are on your side in calling for fully automated luxury communism, abolishing the police, or even making abortion more accessible. How many disillusioned Kentucky non-voters supported Bernie in the primary, or are we saying now that he wasn't good enough either? People who think Pelosi, Schumer and McGrath are "the radical left" are not on your side in any of this.

Abigail Spanberrger's comments had to be some of the most politically ignorant b/s I've heard in a while. It's amazing that these people are our "leaders" and "representatives". If you check out r/RVA or any Virginia subreddits you'll see people agreeing with her, too. You'll see stuff like "Biden and the dems ran on too much socialism" or "Spanberger never said she didn't believe in ACAB" lmao.

Abigail Spanberger, the dem complaining about defund the police and socialism is literally a "former" CIA agent.

I just got around to using y'all, I'm not about to give it up. Molon labe!

Kasz

As y'all talked about how everyone is failing up and Dems keep picking people who lost at things I was thinking, these are the same people who praise meritocracy.
