Premium Ep 25: Podcast Social Responsibility

Am listening to a nov 1 2018 episode called “coming unglued” - have been listening to them in order because I am interested in listening to them process the last year and how/if it changed the things they say. I love this show except when it comes to the socialism. 😂 and mostly that seems to be when the discussion of the socialism is just them insulting “the libs” for basically trying to survive and being stuck in the same ooze they/we are stuck in. Most of the insults seem to also apply to themselves and they don’t make much clear. So far i have heard a lot of criticism of liberals by people who are basically...liberals. 😱 Or they are redefining liberal to mean something it has never meant to me. There seems to be some imaginary line where “the libs” are dumb and bad and cultish and socialists are...not? And voting is bad? I have also heard it posited here that the only real way to have socialism in the US is through organized crime? So you’re dumb if you vote and want the Supreme Court not to become as horrible as the politicians? I just hope over the next few years, the discussion of what socialism means to them and how they see it potentially working out winds up being more than just insulting people who seem not that different ideologically. Or maybe I just need a really solid definition of what they mean by liberal because they seem to be ascribing a lot of strange disingenuous motives to liberals that I really don’t see or experience as performative. I am left-leaning and not a member of a party, but as a cultural outsider (queer, trans, non-neurotypical, strange/eccentric introvert), I have a hard time imagining a socialist way of life that doesn’t feel as soul-crushing as this current life under corporate tyranny. If it’s just redistribution of wealth and people having the same or similar incomes and access to shelter, food, clean water, healthcare, etc great. But if it means I have to live with 5 people and do a job I hate, kill me now. I guess what I am trying to say is I am having trouble envisioning what socialism means to these podcasters. I assume it doesn’t mean “kill all the gays” but the gays’ experiences within socialist states has been at best mixed. I want to know what happens with the creepy uncle in socialist utopia. Especially if there’s no policing. Is he moving in? Is he thrown into the ocean? I just want more deets. I *think* I am more in agreement with socialism than not, but I find it confusing and frustrating when these podcasts just seem to be hurling insults at liberals and it kinda just reminds me of right-wing rhetoric and also it seems like a lot of projection tbh.

Back to McDonalds cashier with yeeee! LOL love the corporate tales of social responsibilities
