One thing I really love about SKAM is that they hired a Muslim actress to play a Muslim character and in HER religious beliefs they extend into her job, for instance, she wears a towel on her head in the bedroom scene because the actress didn't feel comfortable showing her hair, and the director and writers were respectful enough to work with that. There is some controversy with some remakes becaus ethey did not hire a Muslim actress to play their "Sana" and right away on the comments you see people saying "Well it's easier because a non-muslim actress can do more, they can kiss, they can show their hair, they can swear....." and it ends up being a long list of stereotypes where MOST remakes of SKAM hired Muslim actresses to play their Sana and were perfectly able to write the character in a way that respectful of each Muslim actress's personal limits. They hired a minority actor to play a minority role and they also shows the diversity of Muslim women and how they practice their religion (some of the actresses and characters do show their hair, some so swear, some do kiss their love interest) it breaks the stereotypes the audience holds that they might not even know they hold. That is so much more important to me and to I think the exposure for fans than getting to see someone's hair or see them make out with someone.
