The Canadian Education Programme for Foreign Podcasters 12: Canadian Heritage Minutes w/ Alison Rosen

It's been a minute, but we are back with some Canadian Education, and this time it's a video episode! We're joined by Alison Rosen (Childish, Alison Rosen Is Your New Best Friend) to discuss a great part of our nation's education program: Canadian Heritage Minutes. Often airing incongruously with children's programming, these are government-sponsored brief snippets into our country's history. They're weird! Some of them are racist! We look at a bunch from the 90s that include looks into our nation's construction, our sporting past, the Halifax Explosion, and the one where the English guy pretended to be First Nations to sell books.

The problem with all flags is that they don’t just write the name of the country on them. It would be much more straightforward. I say this as a card-carrying art historian with a profound respect for the power of symbolism.

My favourite flag is the one with the beaver that said "Canada" on it

I love when Alison shows her chair for the video and we don't see it at all, that's a good bit
