What Roswaal meant about winning the 'battle for the throne'. He didn't literally mean he 'himself' fight for it. He's Emilia's backer and supporter, so he meant help Emilia fight for thr throne. What Wilhelm meant when he said, that Subaru is someone who's experienced 'death' several times. Is that Wilhelm himself is someone who experienced near death situations (given that Felix called him Sword Demon, which speaks a little about his profession) So he assumes Subaru also experience those as well. (Just not knowing Subaru had experience 'literal' death)
