Poll Complete - Commission Tier Coming.

Forgive me if I'm a tad delirious when I type this as I have had absolutely no sleep because of neighbor issues...

Having analyzed the poll and talked to some people individually I've decided that I will add 3 commission tiers - but each tier (for now) will only be open to one person.  That way I will still be able to offer at least another 3 per month OUTSIDE of Patreon - most people here will have a chance to grab commissions as soon as I finish others, though I will probably wait till the start of the month just for simplicity of scheduling.

I don't have a way to enforce a cool-down on these in Patreon, but I suspect the pricing on the high end will kind of enforce itself as I find most people can only afford a project like that once in a while.

I won't add these until the beginning of next month - primarily because there would be no way for me to finish these before the month is over.

1. $90.  This gives you a two page full color commission with a maximum of two characters or scenes (say a before and after FMG). You can also trade out one of those characters, scenes, or pages for a thousand word piece of writing. This is roughly the equivalent of the Belldandy and Urd image.

2. $210. This gives you a four page full color commission with a maximum of 3 characters or scenes (again, say a three stage FMG).  Four pages gets you a pretty massive girl.....  You can also trade out pages, scenes, or characters for a thousand word piece of writing, with a maximum of 2 trade outs (or 2,000 words). This is roughly equivalent to the Attack on Titan F.M.G. sequence.

3. $400.  This gives you an 8 page full color commission with a maximum of  7 characters or scenes.  Again, you can also trade out pages, scenes, or characters for a thousand word piece of writing with a max of 2 trade outs (or 2,000 words). Most of the time people take this for an absolutely MASSIVE woman or sequence - and usually when I get something like this it takes me a week to do and messes with my eyes. I was actually considering not doing anything like this again when I was posting commissions on Twitter because sometimes I ended up with more than I could physically handle well.  Heh, both fortunately and unfortunately people want to hire me for HUGE (what can I say, I love it, it just hurts....) Doing it here means that I can set a bit firmer limits outside of Patreon and allows me to more clearly limit the max on something like that to once a month - both for my eyes and mental health.  Examples of this are the Mask F.M.G. sequence or Sark's glorious muscle explosion!

Of course, if you have any comments or suggestions, just let me know.  Like any mad scientist, particularly a sleep deprived and delirious one, I might need a heads up if the Tesla coils are about to explode.....

Part of me balks at the idea of charging that much for anything, but the basic idea has its appeal. I have done a few 8 page commissions and they took almost 2 to 3 weeks to do, partly because they were physically and mentally exhausting (even though, frankly, I loved the final results). Heh, maybe I DID undercharge for them considering how much time I lost....In a weird way, instead of being hit by them randomly on twitter, or getting a batch where that kind of work accounts for two or three of them and ending up unable to do any more comms for a long while, it might actually be more manageable if I have one tier that I EXPECT to need that kind of work. This would allow me to screen the people a bit better, and pay enough to make it worth it.....You do have some great ideas - thank you! Whatever I do, I'm probably not going to post until I have all of my current commissions cleared and accounted for as I don't want to cause an accidental pile up. At least right now it does look like the majority (at least of the people who are actually voting) do like that kind of split commission tier. I don't think I can do a "cool down" on Patreon, so I think if I do it, I'll only put up a total of 3 slots. As I pretty consistently finish 6 to 7 comms a month, that way I could still do 3 or 4 outside commissions and while there would be a few people that have basically paid to guarantee themselves comms, there's still the possibility of getting a com from me in other ways. I think that's a decent balance.

Had another idea. If its possible, you could have a closed 500+ tier that a patron would have to get permission from you to join, for when your idea needs more than four sheets of paper. (And considering what you said previously on twitter about writing, either limit how much you can convert or at a lower rate)

That's kind of what worried me about the whole thing, it seemed like the whole concept of having a commission tier was built around people who wanted to be able to get something from you once a month - and with limited positions open that almost guaranteed a few people dominating that position. One one hand, part of me says two or three wouldn't be bad as I know I'd have a locked income, and still be able to open comms elsewhere, but then those two or three sitting in a spot that no one else can get seems like it could really sour some people.

I'm actually kind of the same way - it's why I was surprised when I got a few requests for a commission tier. It was just a few people, of course, but it made me curious just how representative that was of my Patrons. I suppose I should have also asked - is this something you'd actually like to have as an option every month, or is this just a tier you want to be able to grab when you have some money? If it's mostly the latter, it seems kind of like they are paying to do the same thing they'd do on twitter, because either way it's first come first serve with limited spots. If they really want to have that option every month without any competition, then it seems like it would be expensive but worthwhile.

Excellent point - Honestly, I don't know if there's even a way to do that in Patreon....hmmm - time to do a little research. Maybe instead of straight commission tiers, a tier that puts members on a rotation - One member gets a commission each month until the rotation starts all over? It would definitely be cheaper and mean I'm only doing one or two commissions per month on Patreon. Hmmm.....

This is also a very good point to bring up. I have seen on other Patreons where a select few people basically sit on the "super tiers" and never leave. On the one hand, it is a steady source of income, but it can also piss off your other Patrons who might want a chance. This is another reason to keep outside commissions open. It will mitigate this potential issue.

I already spend more than I probably should on Patreon to support a fairly large number of artists, so I typically don't mess with commissions. I occasionally have a creative moment hit me that I want to see made manifest, but unless I have some disposable income at the time, I usually do without. All that said, it means I can't really speak for those who do get commissions on the regular, nor can I honestly judge what they should pay. However, I do think you should try to keep things still available outside Patreon, if only for the purposes of exposure as well as to supplant Patreon income, if a Tier member decides to bounce.

I think you should also add a cooldown time for the commission tiers, like if you get one of them you cant pledge that tier again for a few months. So a few people with a bunch of ideas and money dont monopolize you.
