It was dumb luck
Added 2023-05-30 09:22:49 +0000 UTCOn Sunday I did a photo shoot for my exhibition in a friend's backyard pool. This was the third attempt at doing a shoot underwater for the exhibition and the first to succeed. There were lots of frustrations and many swear words expressed in the first two, failed, attempts. Thankfully I've learned from those failed attempts and discovered some things my camera just can't do and also some technical setup issues that hampered our success.
When I think back to the first day of shooting with my underwater housing in January 2022, it must have just been sheer dumb luck that we got anything useable.
Obviously the more you learn something, the more you realise how much you have to learn. Sometimes throwing yourself at the first attempt with foolish naivety is the best option. If I'd known how difficult it was going to be, I may never have bought the equipment and given it a go.
There is still so much to learn but now that I know a bit more I know I will eventually get some beautiful results. As it is, it's looking like there will be two images in the exhibition that I photographed underwater.
