An Australian photographic success story who has always been an inspiration is Paul Freeman. I became aware of Paul's work way back in the day, about the same time as I discovered my biggest photographic inspiration, James Houston.
Both of these men were photographing Australian celebrities for an art photography magazine called Black + White here in the 90's. While James moved to New York and carved out a very successful career in beauty photography, Paul stayed mostly in Australia and has developed a huge following for his books.
Full of muscular, hairy men relaxing naked in country, farm settings or bonding nude with other men, his books are full of beautiful men. He focuses on stereotypically masculinity, asking his models not to shave any body hair in the lead up to his shoots. He has photographed lots of guys full frontal who have only done it for him. That is the mark of a good reputation.
I met Paul a few times many years ago and he's a lovely guy who has a great eye and a dedication to his craft. Here's hoping he keeps releasing beautiful work!
