Netflix can occupy as much of your time looking for something to watch as actually watching it but a couple of weeks ago I binge watched "The Andy Warhol Diaries". That was a tortured soul indeed, like most of the greats of the art world.
One thing I hadn't realised was how much Andy pursued photography in it's own right. Obviously I knew he used photographs to create his famous screen prints of Elvis, Marylin and countless other famous faces but in the series they show him shooting erotic nudes in NYC just before the AIDS crisis.
The straight haired man in the duo pics above is Jed Johnson, Andy's long term boyfriend photographed with his twin brother by Andy. Oddly enough after their relationship ended, Andy's next boyfriend was also a twin, Jon Gould.
I'm not sure which came first for Warhol, the photography on it's own or photography as a tool for screen printing but looking at his photos, they are harshly lit and lend themselves very well to becoming a screen print.
